Hey Guys & Gals,

My TF has 182K on it and there is an annoying clunking going on. The gearstick seems rough. The clutch seems fine - no noticeable slippage, I've adjusted the play in the clutch pedal for some slight improvement. Problem is that it's the Mrs' car and I never get to see it in daylight. Are there other adjustments? Maybe on the linkage cables? 1st and 2nd gear seem rough too. So maybe it is the clutch and syncros. Seems premature for a clutch at 180k!!

Another issue: the car has is when cold with the clutch engaged, the car seems to hop even when held in 2nd. Not a gearchange driver related error :D .

So, um....help with suggestions.

lol my Ralliart does some/most of this and only has 28000kms on the clock so your not alone there.

Needless to say its going to be a rather large warranty job when I take my ride in for her 30000kms service.

Check the condition of your engine mounts. When I first bought my VRX accross from Adelaide at 64,000kms I noticed first a second were harsh to change out of an into.

The gearbox was very crunchy and poped out and into gears (not by itself only when i was changing through gears). Took it into mitsu and they found the problem straight away, a warn engine mount was causing the gearbox to drop and putting pressure on the gear linkages. They replaced the engine mount under warranty and its been good every since :D

Blake,
Did you ever get your clutch issues sorted or was this the same problem?

This fixed the problem surprisingly  Don't ask me how but haven't had any problems at all since. I badly need an antilift kit so i can launch harder though.

Mounts hey, hmm. Makes sense considering the age. Doing the Timing Belt this week or next, so good time to inspect. Don't feel like take the 'box off anytime soon if I can avoid it.

Mind you, the only hitch since I bought it at 42000km was a bearing set for the GB at 120-odd km. Been as reliable as gravity! Well done Mitsu.

mitsubishi recommend castrol syntrans 'B' gear oil to help with any shift quality concearns. give it a go, its as dear as poision to buy but has an incredible life span.......something crazy like 300000k rated by volvo trucks or something. it generally takes some time to notice an improvement but be patient and you will probably find it will improve. lets face it, its a cheaper start than playing gearboxes.

cheers mon

Mitsu couldn't find anything wrong when they serviced my car, so they flushed the transmission fluid/oil and replaced it with VMX80.

Guess I will know tomorrow morning how much difference this has made if any.

So far so good with the VMX80 in, no sign of any shifting issues this morning but I didn't really push the car hard either. But changing into second before was a biatch first thing in the morning regardless, but that seems to have disappeared.
