hi was wondering would it make a noticable difference fitting a 2nd gen cam to a first gen with efi.
it has roller rockers, slightly more lift and duration.
i know it will fit but just wondering if anyones done this for cheap power increase

im not 100% but i think most ppl opt for the mild cam reground

im not sure on this, as when u get a mild cam with efi, u need to get a ecu piggy back, so if u got the money to spend on that get it reground

u will barely notice an increase. it's still classed as a stock cam and so wouldnt even b classed as a stage 1 mild cam. nor would it be classed as (like a ralliart cam) like a 0.5 stage cam. waste of money for something that wont give u much increase at all.
the extra 5kw at the engine or so that the 2nd gens have is mainly to do with a higher compression ratio and some other smaller things

yer and you can gain like that much or more by just changing the muffler

I recently had to replace the head on a TR with efi. I fitted a TS head (M9 cast with smaller heart shaped combustion chambers) and I also fitted the original cam and rockers that came with the TS head. Result = big improvement in performance from idle but especially 3000-5000rpm. It now out pulls VS/VT V6 autos up hills from 100kph.
I think the only difference between 4cyl TR EFI and earlier magna heads is bigger valves and roller rockers. TR EFI 4cyl does have higher compression ratio that earlier models

I actually thought it was only the TS that had the different head setup. I thought that the TR was the same as the 1st gen.

the 2nd gen carbys had the same compression ratio as all the 1st gens. the EFI 2nd gens (TR and TS) all had 9.0:1 CR's.

i think what cartman meant was the actual head, not the comp. tho what TM says is correct, the TR can be used on the first gens. but the TS had a diff setup. tho im unsure of the ts glx, but they'd have to be the original series 1 head.

yes the TR and TS are exatcly the same except the 2nd gen carby glx there exactly the same as the 1st gen carby
