I've seen figures vary from 1500 to 6000.
I'd more likely believe the 6000.
If you REALLY love your TR then go for it.
Do you have a V6 now?

As the TR is getting older parts are cheaper and more readily availible, but still isn't going to be cheap as there is a fair bit of farting around to be done.
I wouldn't expect much change from 2000-2500.
6000 is a bit much and i don't think you would be up for that much. I was quoted 2300 to do the job in my 2.6 TS

yeah 2500 sounds better. a recon on the auto would cost about 2000 i heard so the extra cash for the manual i think would be well spent :D

considering that TR/TS are being sold for $3000 anyway...
Id say buy a complete Manual and do TWO swaps.... you will recover alot of your money by doing it that way.
That is what I am try to tell the TE/TF people.... buy a Manual and then swap it into your Autos and then your Autos back into the Manuals..
Shouldnt loose very much money that way at all.

Hadyn that is a bloody good idea, hows that for ingenious thinking.
Perhaps i'll locate me a V6 Manual then :D and just transfer everything over.
The good thing about that idea is you can swap parts from the doner car that look better, or replace damaged interior parts.

Your draw back is ... Not everyone has access to a spare $8,000-$10,000 (for the TE-TJ) to do the swap.... but if you take oput a personal lone .. it will cost you and extra $150 on top of the loan amount...
once you have then transfered everything over and back again and advertised and sold the car... (maybe loosing a little bit) another $150 is not that bad...
On another point ... Autos are more expensive from the dealers in the first damn place.. so you should therefore be able to sell them for more than teh manual anyway! Hey, you might get lucky and MAKE MONEY
Haydn
Edit... Im offering my Manual TE 4cyl to anyone who wants to swap out the bits... give me some extra money and teh Auto TE $cyl back and you have a deal... (labour not included :D )

Also the box had better be in good condition, as mine has just been replaced and is in perfect order.

And this is a SERIOUS offer to anyone who wants to do it ... Im in Brisbane..
I want to sell the car by the end of August at the latest.

Ps there is no problem with driving it as much as you like prior to make sure you are happy with the box... (much as you like ... within reason :D )

Hey Haydn would I lose my cv joints? cause I just replaced them too, what exactly would be swapped over for the conversion?
I am guessing it would be the box cv's and computer, and the gear that goes to the handles or gearstick inside the car.
