Hey all,
Ive got an auto 3.5 4spd and the shift point seems to have changed....
Recently, for example, when i accelerate with a bit of pep, it revs then when it goes to second the revs drop low and it feels like such a loss of power... Its not like a seamless power band like it used to be. I havent changed the battery in a year and the ecu hasnt been reset since then. I drive randomly sometimes pretty heavy footed other times very soft.
Is there anyway i can change this by resetting ecu? or are there other factors involved?

I can't claim to be an authority on the subject, but afaik if you shift manually for a while, it will learn to shift as you are.

as you probably know all te on magnas have invecsII on the auto whis is basicly an adaptive shifting. to reset this you must disconnect the battery and then relearn the auto trans using what is called a 2-3 upshift relearn procedure. it amongst giving the auto a base to start from teaches it it shift correctly from 2-3rd smoothly. before doing this check auto fluid quality and level and carry out flush of box and converter if suspect (replace auto filter if it has this type of box) also. possibly a good idea to get codes checked by mitsu dealer aswell if in doubt.
hope i have been of some help. let me know a few more symptoms and ill try my best to help out.
cheers mon

What is the 2-3 shift relearn procedure???????? is it as simple as just disconnecting battery?

I've noticed that too.
Try going bac to the stock Air Filter. The K&N Panel seems to give it a bit of a dead spot < 3kRPM.
And INVECS will not learn a thing on a normal auto unless it's left in Drive.

2-3 upshift relearn is carried out by disconnecting the battery for 1 minute or so then with a warm tranny fluid temp hold it back in first so there are no upshifts at all and find a long straight preferably not busy piece of road and pull up. select drive and accellerate slowly and consistanly making the 2-3 upshift happen at 55-60 kph if it is 3.5 litre and 45-50 if it is a 3 litre. do this at least 5 times....the more the better......i have had some not respond until 8 or 10 shifts so be patient.
if you start when the tranny is cold you can also carry out a shift shock relearn.
start vehicle and allow idle to drop below 1000. shift the lever from neutral to drive 5 times allowing time for gear to engage and disengage between lever movements...do the same for reverse and procedure is complete. to carry out 2-3 upshift learn the trans temp must be above 60 degrees i think but its hard to tell with no mutII.
hope this helps...let me know how you go

monMon, you seem to know a lot about this. Can you give us some idea as to how you know all this? I have never read/heard this elsewhere. I would be quite interested to hear your experience in this.
A guy in the middle east, I forget his name now, said he had Invecs II disconnected. I would be interested in getting this done as my auto box is giving me the craps. I drive VERY randomly, therefore, assuming the box "learns" your driving style mine would be in a psychiatric ward which seems to be the case lol . Mon, know anything about this??
Mark.

I leave mine in 3rd while in town. Can't do the auto any good sliding in to 4th everytime with out drive force.Mine can give me the s**ts sometime as it will flare between 3/4th sometimes when powering away etc.,

you had to ask hey....i might work at a mitsu dealer :D dont want to incrimminate myself ...when i started to get onto this forum i thought maybe i can help some of you guys out. the reason you may not have heard of these procedures is that they are dealer confidential documents and will not be in print outside that.
As for invecsII being disabled im not aware that it can be done permanently...it is possible to turn it off momentarily for trans diag purposes but to tell you the truth ive never tried to play to turn it off for good...may be possible...ill try to remember to take a look next time i have my head in a manual.
The change into 4th is completed not under 58kph.Under very light throttle ot can be in 4th at 58-60kph and you are dead right when you go to accel it has to shuffle back....3rd gear around town is a good option.
