View Full Version : To All Those Who Say 19s Fit on A VRX Ok

I have a 2001 Tj Sports with the Sports Wagon Kit. The Sports Wagon Kit includes the wheel arch flares that come standard on VRX's and Ralliarts.

The car is lowered 45mms at the front (King Spring Lows) & 30mm at the rear (King Spring SP's)

I put 19inch ROH Furys on my car this afternoon with 245/35 rubber.

They do not fit, the rub like hell on the guards/flares. Front rubs under even soft cornering. Rear rubs over soft bumps and under soft acceleration. I'm having to drive my car like a grandma tonite as it rubs when the suspension moves AT ALL.

Many people seem to have 19s on the VRX's, what have i done wrong!!!!!!!

I like the 19s, they look great but im going to have to go back to 17s tommorow if no one can help

Yeh when i took the car back to the tyre shop (5mins before closing time) they said they could roll the guards tommorow....but the flares wont go back on if they roll the guards... i like the flares

are u sure the tyre profile is right? technically, they both should have the same over all diameter, so you shouldn't have any problems.

Easy alternative- give the 19s to me :D

_stonesour_
16-03-2005, 05:18 PM
surely u can mod the flares to make them stay on! . ull need the flares at the front atleast as ur wheels will pertrude from the car which isnt allowed:( .... i has 235's and they pertrude without the guards so u need them or risk a defect:(

_stonesour_
16-03-2005, 05:19 PM
oh and i aint no expert but question why dont u get 235's instead ? or are they to small for the rim ?

gremlin
16-03-2005, 05:22 PM
Yeah i was thinking 235s instead of the 245s

254/35 is suppose to be correct but obviously it aint. The tyres fit to the rim wheel though.

Yes the rolling diameter is nearly the exact same. Difference is my 17s where 7inch wide, these 19s are 8inch wide

If i was to ask for a 235 width what profile would i need????

i know that the flare actually make the arch lower by about half and inch to an inch. where is it actually rubbing? the flare or the actual guard?

Is the offset right? I know manual had 18x8 ROH Furys and the offset was way wierd, they almost protruded from the side of the car, not too flash, i think he said they were a commodore offset.

This might have something to do with it. I have 18x7.5's with 235/40/R18 and they are fine, no worries at all :D

gremlin
16-03-2005, 05:33 PM
The wheels are currently fitted with 245/35s....

Maybe if i change them to a 235/35 it will make it just narrow enough to clear the guard/flare..... Anyone got a lowered VRX with 19s???

Yeh with the flares off (i had to remove the rear flares to even drive the car) the tyres hang out past the guard.....

u gotta get right offset

i put my 19s on my ex gfs vrx and they didnt scrub

Sounds to me like u have the wrong offset on the new wheels. I've had 19"x8.5" with 245/35 tyres on both a TS and now on my TJ Ralliart, both of wich were lowered a fair bit(TS = very low) and haven't had any rubbing problems at all. I'd be going back to where you got the wheels and having a talk to 'em bout it. Or you could roll the guards, get a camber kit and enjoy the extra bit of track.

TheDifference

yeah, check the offset. Mine are 8.5" wide and i have no problems. 235/35

they are rubbing on the clips that hold the flairs on so what to doo you ask id get some bodykit glue and stick the flairs on get slight camber in the front

i reckon those 19's even look "TOO" big. 18 inch Roh furys would look better i suspect. Thats just me tho

Oh and ive got 17x8 roh furys on 235's without a problem

19" would probably fit fine at standard ride height, then lower car to suit from there hence avoiding rubbing...

16-03-2005, 09:36 PM
i reckon wrong offset rim, and also probabkly run 235/35 tyre should solve it,

godd luck

Thems look the goods gremlin

I've got the standard 17's with a just legal height and had to remove the top flare clips for the fronts and trim the inner plastic lip back 10-15mm, I them black silasticed the area where the clips are missing.

As for the rear my tires go up past the flare about an inch and there's still 10mm clearance between the tyre and the flare.

As I have 225's I thought the 245's would extend 10mm in and out of the original 225.

But I suppose it depends on the offset of the rim.

If it's not rubbing on the original metal guard then you should be able to remove some of the upper flare clips and trim the lip back. Then just glue these areas to the body.

Let me know how you go as I'm looking at the Vapors in 19.

cheers

perhaps if someone would post what offset they should be to fit correctly then he could confirm if they are the correct offset or not?

... just a thought

I shouldn't have said anything, lol, I've only recently put them on the ralliart, they were on the TS for 2 years, people thought I was crazy when I put them on that.

Gotta agree with you, they are a very nice wheel.

how do people find the ride quality with 19's? i just went back to some 15" stockies till i decide to get some new tyres on the VRX rims or find some 18's or 19's and the difference is pretty big...

here's a pic of what I did to the front flare.

You might have to trim a bigger area than mine but start off with just the upper 2 clips and go from there.

You should be able to do this to the rear as well

Yup anything between +40 and +35 should be fine (no rubbing).

+30 would be fine at the back but would stick out to much at the front.
+45 would be fine at the front, but would rub on the suspension arm at the back.

For the back to rub on the body work I would think it would have to be +28 or more....

Ok went back to where i got the wheels today... They had to remove the back flare, roll the inner lip of the guard flat, then shave off the inner part of the flare (the part where those clips are) then use double sided tape to put the flare back on. Its holding on fine and the wheels clear nicely at the back now.

I havent touched the front yet as this isnt to much of a problem but i think i'll do the same there....

shweet, good to hear,

Some hq pics, what tyres, how much and where dude.

I got a quote for 2720 from Aust Best for 19" vapors (shadow chrome) but thats with cheap tyres.

Your tempting me, its come down to 3 grand on some uber PC hardware or 19"es of goodness

Yeah i got mine from Australia's Best for $2300 including the stuffing around today with the rolling of guards and modying of flares

As for the tyres, i dunno what they are.... From what ive seen tyres u get with packages usually arent the best.. These feel good to drive on, just dont know how long they'll last

thw01f
17-03-2005, 07:19 PM
nice price,

by the look of that first pic they were the same tyres I was quoted

they must have seen me comin to quote me 2720.

Now your giving me something to work with as the fury's and vapours are the same price.

Are yours shadow chrome?, as they are $44 more per rim than the silver.

gremlin
17-03-2005, 08:50 PM
They actually quoted me $2800 over the phone originally aswell.

Mine arent shadow chrome. Yes they are $44 a wheel extra. I was going to get them but they reckon dark wheels look good on light coloured cars and light wheels look good on dark coloured cars (ie my car looks better with silver than shadow chrome)

Dude i run 18 x 8 TSW VX1's and you have to make sure that you get them set up right first else you have a money tree out back to pay for the constantly scrubbing out wheels
A Shim kit from Whiteline and camber ( pin ) kit from k-mac, whiteline should set you up for very little to no probs. And even throw in an anti-lift kit to get you off the line a little quicker aswell as give better response and give slightly beyyer turning circle ( slightly )
