I keep reading about people having seen or purchased cars from auctions for pretty good prices, even the older higher mileage cars, TE\TF\TH etc. Which auctions are these? Is it Pickles, I have looked in the newspaper and the two main auctions here in South Australia are Pickles and Govt. Auctions (the latter being mainly newer cars <2 years old)
A hail damaged car would be of interest as they are considerably cheaper to purchase and you can therefore get the car you want cheaper (as long as you don't mind looking at the hail damage which can be expensive to repair)
P.S. Hell I've started lots of threads

I've bought a car from Pickles. Excellent place to buy a car. All cars come with an NRMA inspection and most problems are noted on the report. Just one thing to be wary of....most cars are not washed before the auction or the inspection, so some scratches and paint defects will not be noticeable. Make sure you give the car a good once over to be sure.
I got the VR-X at Alliance auctions. The best part about that was I went in on a non-auction day and they let me test drive the car for about an hour. That's when I got hooked and bought the car. :D

Yes, I've heard that Fowles are good in Adelaide and so is Pickles, the Govt. auctions at Netley are good but they are dearer newer cars than what I am looking for,I am looking at 1999 TH or 2000 TJ, most of the cars at Govt. auctions are < 2 years old.
Hey nice TJ you got there Hendo TJ02, the wheels really set it off and they look good in white
:D
I got mine from Aberdeen Auto Auctions (if you are in perf), ask for Ric and say that Anthony sent you... he will look after you.

Got my car from pickles, 1 year old, nearly depreciated half its sale price from new, 40,000 k's, 2 years warrantly left. Total bargain. Never been happier with any car I have bought. Love it to death, even though it is an auto :doubt: :doubt:
As a side note, my car was fully detailed and clean as a whistle when i bought it. It had brand new tyres, freshly serviced and looked brand new. Only problem was a couple of windscreen stone chips, but for the price i paid, who cares

you just have to be carefull of these types of auctions as you normally dont get to drive the car before you buy. But otherwise you can pick up some really good deals at the auctions!
If you have a touch more money to spend, the government auctions are bloody good value, even the copper auctions are good, many people dont want a cop car cos they think it would have been thrashed, but seriously not that much can be done to one in around the 20000km's they keep em and they normally have sports suspension and stuff in em, and they are well priced because everyone is afraid of buying them
i personally am waiting for a couple of the magna VR AWD's the coppers seem to be using alot in brisbane now days to come up for auction! should be some good value purchasing their!!!
Got mine from govt auctions in SA too, do the research on their website. Can view prices for the last 6-8 weeks. The magnas go really cheap in comparison to the commodores/fords. But as you say, they are all newer cars. But you can pick up some good quality new cars with low milage lalot cheaper than what u pay from a dealer. Thats the way i look at it. :D

Another SA government auction buyer here, 15 months old TL Wagon, white, 42k, needed 4 tyres (prob 5k left on them) some stone chips on bonnet/bumper one large chip in windscreen (up in the shade bar so no worries), $18,800
autogroup are good too. That's where I mostly go. www.autogroup.com.au
