Can those of you with photos of their throttle bodies please post them? I'm just doing some research for someone.

sounds like someone is planning on some machining (or im completely wrong)......:D
i looked into it, was gonna bore mine out on a lathe at work but couldnt get the sucker in the 4-jaw lathe properly.
not sure about 3rd gens....but the 2nd gen TB is devinately round at least at the inlet -> butterfly end.

Redav,
I have a TJ throttle body lying around that currently isn't attached to a car. If you've got some specific measurements you want (other than what you've already said), let me know and I'll see what I can get for you.

I have my TB off the VRX the moment, will take some measurements on the weekend.
Opening is definatly circular though.

I've still yet to fit my RPW modded T/B too, if you wanted to have a look at that.

No point boring it out as its to thin, the area where it will break thru is in the centre of the ISC part on the throttle body and above it on the top of the thottle body.

Hmm... had a look at it tonight. Yeah, it's pretty thin. I got no idea how Dave managed to overbore it 5mm
I don't think Dave has really overbored it 5mm at the butterfly. I mean look at the photos, there isn't really 2.5 all around to chew.
There's a bit of meat around the edges of the butterfly, but it only allows for elliptical boring around the butterfly opening edges. Even if you wanted to go that way and fit a custom shaped butterfly it would be VERY difficult. You can't put it in a lathe or mill because these only cut circular. Using a grinding tip that follows a programmed pattern might be the answer but there's not much meat there. Be happy with a high flowed TB or spend $800+ on a 105mm from efihardware.com.
I bet they get some hits now!!!

There is zero room, you might get 1mm if your lucky but anymore and the outer casing would just crack coz its so thin. There is no way dave could bore it out 5mm.
Only other alternative would be to modify a larger TB to fit however then you would probobly loose cruise control (if your lucky enough to have it).

well there must be something you can do because i have a 70mm oversized throttle body fitted (designed by RPW) and as far as i am concerned it has to be the best cost effective mod that i have done, and i have done quite a few!

Yeah, I think you're right. It obviously needs a new butterfly for proper oversizing. On the weekend I had a chat to one of the guys, (Kevin), and I think he thinks there's stuff all room too.
To machine a clean 70mm intake, butterfly and outake on a stock TB, you would be outside the casing on the intake, upset the butterfly rail at the butterfly, need an oversized butterfly, redrill the vac lines, one the outlet you would be so close to the bolt holes it's scarey. Then you have to modify your gasket to accommodate and work the plenum inlet to match the TB port size. Otherwise you will have a flow bottleneck. It will be better than a flowed original unit, but additional work needs to be done to optimise it's potential assuming the other problem listed above are taken into consideration.
