View Full Version : 1st Gen "Trim Level" Identification

It is quite easy to tell what "trim level" your Magna has simply by looking at the VIN (with the exception of the GT).
On a TM/N look at the 4th character and compare it to the list below.
On a TP look at the 7th character and compare it to the list below (TPs use an ISO standard VIN and therefore have the country and manufacturer prefix before the model).
e.g.
TN2SXXXXXXXX
6MMTP4SXXXXXXXX
These indicate a TN/P Elante respectively.
H = GLX
D = Executive
P = SE
S = Elante
X = Elite
Unfortunately it would appear that Mitsubishi never distinguished the GT from the rest by VIN. Every GT I have seen has had a GLX trim.
I hope others find this useful and interesting.
Cheers,
C02.

Safari Wagons show as an Executive (even have the exec badge on the tailgate).

Every safari ive seen hasnt had a class badge, only had mitsu and magna on it, and doesnt look like it was debadged.
you can get encores with efi btw. but meh, those LE's, the only 1 that makes a hoot is the GT and only due to end of line elant'e
wasn't the thing about safaris coz u could get 2-tone paint on a base model car? that was like the only big whoop to it, and not there common color line, like white with gray and blue and black. kinda like the sigmas.
Just class em as run outs which really is all they are, kinda like solaras in the 3rd gen series, and 2nd gen elites.

GLX are carby as standard, but the ENCORE was EFI std in a GLX shell.
Zilch price difference between ENCORE and a proper Exec when new.
ENCORE had the stickers & colourcoded hubcaps.

sorry, but nope Ive had a glx TN EFI 5 speed with air con.
TM were all carby, didnt matter what model, but TN-TP you could get deal option efi for any model. but you couldnt get deal option carby. trying to phase it out.
could be wrong, i know sogg has a glx, and i'm next to 99% sure his is EFI, mainly coz i was gonna buy his wiring harness ages ago... so mmmm.
there has to be something significant with the encore..... wouldntve made it otherwise.... 2-tone paint? option wheels? guarantee it'll last a lil longer??? lol
is the encore badged in any ways? or is it simply Magna GLX?
i know someone with a TP GLX that has EFI... but there's nothing special about it (no badging, cheap ass glx interior)

ALL GLX's in all gen1s where standard with carby it wasnt untill the the TN that the GLX had the option of efi same with TP
also all the executives where standard with carby too they just had the standard feature of Auto trans and p/s and power mirror over the glx
