Am the proud new owner of a 97 TE, the first thing I'm looking to do it get the sounds sorted.

My problem is after reading a lot of threads I seem to be more condused than when I started. I have got an Alpine CDA-9833 head unit and PioneerTS-C160R splits. I am going to install these next week however I have a few questions;

Should I mount the tweeters in the top of the dash in the existing holes and the 6" speakers in the doors? or is it worth building kick boards and installing them this way?

Still to buy;
Should I replace the rear speakers with 6x9s and running off the 4x60W head unit or am i kidding myself and do I need an amp? in which case should I forget the 6x9s and go for a sub instead? Query here is also cost because I have already outlayed a fair chunk on what I have bought so far.

Any help would be much appreciated.

if i was u i would put the new sterio in the factory locations so no dick heads can your ****
i would run 6x9's an amp & a sub at least a 12 or a 15 inch to make it sound good

er, no. get 6" rears and a sub if ur gonna go down that path.

6x9's + sub = waste of money

Your deck will run your 6x9's fine, my 9835(same power as yours) is running a pair of 80wrms pioneers without much trouble I just wouldnt push them too hard or you'll run into clipping. But like paul said, the best route is put your splits in and get a subby, take your standard 6x9's out and let the sub breathe ;) unless you already have the 6x9's

well....depends..if you spend 500 bucks on a set of 6x9s only to buy 3 15" RE xxx subs later..then well, don't spend so much on 6x9s. I'm sure those nice alpine headunits wouldn't be too bad in pwoer output, but an amp will definately beat it hands down.

If you budget allows, new 6x9s will definately be a big improvement over the factory paper cones. As for splits in the front...i mounted mine a little above the woofer... in front of the window winder.

Love that headunit..i want one :cry:

As for where to mount the tweeters, see this article (http://www.fastfoursforumscarclub.com/temp/fhrxstudios/faq.asp#12). :D

I would aim for splits at the front, a single sub in the back and an amplifier to run the whole show. :)

U wanna mount them as close to the mid bass as possible to stop separation. And as far away from the listeners ears to decrease path difference.

Best spot imo is down low in the doors or in the kick panels if you are after good stereo imaging.

General rule of thumb is to point them at the opposite headrest, but best bet is to play around with what sounds right. Blu tack is ur friend

Try and get a good centre image
