Hi Guys. Just finished installing a DVD player and indash LCD screen. Which is looking pretty sweet. Also have finished installing my sub and amp. Everything works except one thing.

The headunit isn't saving the radio stations. Just wondering if anyone can tell me the wire which f***s this up. When i turn the car on, all the lights on the headunit come on but it is turned off until i click the on button. But the weird thing is, the lcd is wired up to the same wires and can turn on its self. :headbange
I originally stuffed up some wiring, and for some reason, dont ask me how, the REM was connected up to a wire which gets 12volts from it when i turn the lights on, not the key. So just connected them to the Acc. :)

And also have just taken off the door trims and are about to put in the splits.
MB Quarts 6"
I'm wondering at what DB do i have the tweeters at, as the cross-over has 3 options. 0db, -3db, & -6db. Also thinking of mounting them in the doors.

So far i think i have got a pretty sweet system for the money i spent.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
DVD/Mp3/VCD/CD/radio with 4x45, 2preouts, AUX in, big lcd,
7inch InDash non motorised screen (had to jigsaw 2mm from the console for them both to fit.
together $530

MB Quarts 6" Splits. 120wrms
$199 - rrp around 400

Monoblock Audioline 300wrms amp - $210
Clarion 12" Vnet series - $150 with box

Total just under 1100
-------------------------------------------------------------------
PS I'll get some pics when i've finished off the doors.

Also i am getting darker then legal tint from tint-a-car lol.

Next stage is rims and lowering. Probably lowering first as its cheaper.

Oh, and i am driving a 99 TH exec, bout about a month ago. :D

You should have two wires that go to +12V. One is connected straight to you battery, the other should be connected to you ignition.

So you say your hu isnt saving the stations..

when you turn your car off, take the key out n all. The Should still be power going into your HU. Is there? there should be a clock or something?? anything?
If not, then youve wired something up wrong.

Cause the only way i can think off to make the hu not remember the stations is because its not gettin power to keep the memory going. So check that out.

With the tweeter settings. It all depends on how much treble you like. And how far away you mount your tweeters. Usually -3 is a good option.

Also your rem to the amp should be wired up to the rem from your hu, if it has one. If not then acc is fine.. Is ur hu connected to the cars acc? it should be.

TELL US HOW UVE WIRED IT UP !! lol
then i can help

If you have both power leads wired to ACC, it will work when the key is on ACC or ON, but as soon as you turn it off, you will loose memory.
Id say you havent wired the one directly to the battery.

That's ur problem. There is no power to the unit to save the stations. Wire the headunit battery wire up to the cars stock battery wire in the ploom. Use a multimeter/test light or

Have it for whatever sounds good for you pretty much. Play around with them and see what you fancy. This will drop or raise the output level of all the treble. I find if you mount them down low in the kick panels you may enjoy 0 or +3. Conversely if you have them blaring into ur face off the dash u may want to do the -3.
If you mount them very close to the mid you'll want to go with 0 attenuation

btw, nice splits, let us know how you like them.

basically play with the crossovers
use some blu tac or somethng similar and move the tweeters around, by playing with the tweeter position and attenuation, try to obtain the best possible sound.

its amasing how much difference tweeter position can make to sound quality.

Hye guys. Sorry to drag up this old thread, but I could use a word or two of help :(.

I have '99 TH Magna.

I've got the same problem, as in the H/U resets every time I turn off the car. Following the wiring info from that link, I connect the yellow wire up to the stock red w/ blk wire. I also connect the red wire from the H/U to the stock blue wire. In doing this, I get nothing. The unit may flash on, but then goes off straight away.

Using an older H/U, I've connected up both the red and yellow wires up the ACC wire (blue). Then the headunit works.... apart from the memory being reset every time I turn off the power.

Why do I get nothing when I have red-blue and yel-red? So any idea's whats going on?

Thanks.... :(

ok theres a quick fix for this and a logner fix, the quick fix is just running a new wire from the battry direct to the constant on the head unit (FUSE IT !!!!!!!)

the longer fix is turn evertyhing in the car off and with the keys out of the ignition look at were all the wires to the radio are in the loom, and using a multimeter find the one with 12 volts still at it and this will be the constant wire

have fun

by the sounds of it you constant wire is broken, could just be a fuse or something

There's an even quicker fix, run a wire to the back of your fuse box parallel to the clock. The advantage is it's already fused, so saves from buying a fuse holder.

No way know the fuse will blow if you do it right, cos from memory it's a 15amp fuse and it'll easily supply enough current for memory and clock.

I'm always sceptical about installdr's wiring diagrams. lol. Best if u check it out with a multimeter before u solder wires on.

Doing what u've done, the old headunit seems to work fine, but you need to find a 'constant 12V' so it doesn't reset every time the car is off. As for the new one...is it faulty? lol

Grab a multimeter and find a wire that is putting out 12volts when the car is off, and another, which puts out 12v when you've turned the key one clog over.

i'm getting back to study now, exam this afternoon :noway: :noway:

btw, welcome to AM!
