Go Bostons, they have a very solid sound that would be great for Hiphop/Rock. I was about to also suggest Hertz Windmills 6.5", which also put out phenomenal amounts of mid-bass when you give them lots of clean power.

Is an amp really required for a split system? Will un-amped splits running off the HU sound like 6.5" 3 ways?

^^ Splits without amp are a waste of money, unless you plan to add an amp in the very near future. Better off spending the money on decent 2 ways and spending the spare change on condoms or something.

I have the exact same Phoenix GOld splits. Surprisingly good for the money u pay! I know..i got them overseas quite a while ago and never got around to installing them until now.. :doubt:

That of the Bostons..everyone loves bostons. Diamond Audios wouldn't be too far behind, haven't heard any though.

Wow is that a wrong statement. If you have a pair of splits with a sensitivity of 92db and a pair of 2 ways that are also 92db which one will sound better or be louder. There both exactly the same.

Whether a speaker is a coaxil or a set of splits makes no difference. it the sensitivity of the speaker that gives it it's volume. If you have a very sensitive speaker with a good head unit you can run splits no problems at all

The biggest issue with running a poll like this is that you're going to get people recommending the most common on, hence Boston.

How many people here have heard a Diamond, Morel, Vibe or Phoenix Gold split set in action? :)

Not as many people who have heard bostons :bowrofl:

Hey Marty are there many other people in Australia who deal with Vibe and Diamond?

Totally agree. I for one don't like the sound of Boston speakers but trying to track down the others to hear is hard.

I have the exact same set of Phoenix GOld splits, and I have to say....they sound surprisingly good for what they are...definately worth looking into!!

I would imagine Diamond Audio wouldn't be too far behind, same with morels. Boston, pffft, sif get the popular one.

Yep, that is correct.

There are a few dealers around but they tend to only use dealers that know what they're doing unlike many other brands that are only interested in moving boxes. :)

Very true i guess, I would hate to have strathfield try selling Vibe splits.. only to recommend hooking them up to a Boss or Avalanche amp :bowrofl:

Sound like fhrx studios is special :D :shhhh:

I'm not talking about volume, I'm talking about value.
