View Full Version : Resonator
I was wondering if anybody has taken off there exhaust resonator.
Do you get any more power.
Do you have to do any other mods if you do take it off
Is it worth taking it off or not?
thanks. so it just makes it louder then

The stock resonator is actually a good piece of hardware, if you want your car louder look at replacing the rear muffler as the resonator generally just removes drone, but will make the exhaust louder if you remove it.
My advice, leave it be and get a straight through rear muffler :D

Leave it alone! As every one has said before myself get a straight through muffler, if you take the resinator off your car with sound tinny, like a little excel and you dont want that.
i took mine out, tinny as all hell
put one back in, now its got a nice rumble to it,
cept above 4500rpm it screams
Thanks heaps, and i diffenitly dont want it to sound like
a excel. Once again thanks for all the advice

As the people here are saying, the restriction of a resonator is minimal when compared to that of the main muffler and the hard bends in the system.
On the 3.0 however, just before the resonator (hotdog, underneath the rear driver's seat), the pipe size reduces. Perhaps if you use a larger hotdog resonator and larger piping to the rear muffler, you might gain a slight bit in flow.
Even then, the rear muffler (if stock) would be better to replace instead (more improvement for less $.)
If you want a different note, I'd look at introducing a main muffler further up stream (if you can find the room for it) and then install a resonator where the rear muffler was.
Cheers,
Dave

I replaced my resonator with a straight through model and also 2 straight through mufflers (split exhaust system) Its too damn loud. It sounds excellent at idle and also when driving, but damn its loud. Everything in my cabin vibrates coz of the noise. Getting it changed to a muffled resonator again

I don't have a resonator. My car sounds like an excel :( I had the resonator cut out when I had my 2nd hand VRX (I think) muffler installed. It will probably continue to sound like one. At WOT it sounds fine especially higher up in the rev range.. but when you are half on the throttle.. taking off, driving through car parks, etc.. it sounds ****. ****s me quite a bit.. might get a whole new exhaust done up in a few weeks. Don't take out the resonator as everyone said it just makes your exhaust louder not sound any better.

i put a hot dog in place of mine when the factory one fell apart inside and mine sounds good the only time it sounds tinny is when i take the factory cat off and put my modified 1 in but only do that for the track
