View Full Version : D.I.Y StrutBrace complete!!!!!!
well the past couple weeks i've been makin a strut brace durin my spare time at work and today i finally finished it.....
the strut plates and bracket are mild steel, and the bar is 6061 alluminium.
The welds arent the best looking but do the job. (at 110amps the metal just melts in no time) Had to use high amperage to really get the 2 bits of metal to melt together and get a strong weld. Also had to build up a fair bit of weld as i wanted to fill the gap between the round bracket and the plate.
Painted the plates red with some left over calliper paint i had left lying around. heh.
I havent really taken it for a good drive yet, but i can already tell the front end is alot stiffer through hard cornering...it actually makes the back end feel a bit looser.
so yeh, im pretty happy with the results....

Nice work mate... looks good too  how do you get the cross bar out if you need to? loosen the nuts and wind the threads in?
I sense your PM box filling with requests lol
.... hmmmm "Samurai" brand strut braces... might work lol
if i need to get the cross bar out i just undo the strut plates.....6 bolts....meh...i originally planned to have it so i could just undo 2 bolts and take the cross bar off....but said **** it and just welded it on.....
and before anyone asks......i wont be making anymore of these....i barely had any spare time at work, and actually stayed back at work today to finish this off. sorry guys

Nice work :D Can you make one for mine at the rear, as I often feel the rear of the car screaming out for help as the front wheels twist it around :D

i suggest getting a heavy duty swaybar for ur rear end, should help with the looseness in the rear.

well done. Looks like it will work. I wish you luck though. Last time I saw a home made strut brace was for a cordia. The guy sold 20 of them all around australia. I know at least 10 of them broke and at least 2 of them went through the bonnet.
But yours does look better than the Cordia ones I saw. Sounds like you know what you are talking about also.

:o dont say that.....lol nah the welds are pretty solid....and the alluminium is 6061 Structual used on building sites and all sorts of ****. I gave it a bit of a hiding this afternoon, and inspected it for cracks and the like......cant see anything, but the big test will be Reefton this weekend.
