Hey, I had a song xplod mp3 deck installed in my 91 TR SE, with the standard speakers left in...

Occasionally while listening to music it starts crackling and being distorted.. and then sometimes it can either stop playing music all together or getting progresivly worse?

Only way is to wait and hope it gets better, or remove the CD Face and try again.. (not always fixes it but improves it) or turn the car off all together and once again hope it fixes itself....

Any ideas? Would it be the cables? or the actuall speakers? Can happen when music is either loudish or even just quiet... ?

Thanks any help appreciated.

possibly a short somewhere. either on the terminals or the wires themselves.

its most probably a dodgy earth / power wire to the headunit.
pull the unit out, and check the connections.

while you are at it, check them all, including the speakers.
just make sure they are all making a good connection and properly covered, be that with electrical tape or heat shrink.

Yeah... My amp was powering down in the beginning, but that was a circulation problem. Got more air into the boot, and no more overheating.
Could be worth checking out.
... If you have an amp, that is.

Standard speakers? Does the TR SE come with 4 speakers standard or only 2 front ones like the executive? Is the distortion coming from the front or the rear? or both? if its coming from the front i can probably understand why, those standard front speakers are very small and...crappy  and ur amplifier probably has...45w? 52w? something like that...which is too much power for the speakers, which would explain the distortion. cant help with the rest unfortunatly :)
