i think my car is ****ed... TH auto.. 3.5L.. yes i do drive it hard.. but i just got a fulkl tank of mobil premium.. and i want to drive the spurs this weekend.. so i drove VERY slow... i've just passed 3/4 tank (as in i've jused just over 1/4) and i've only done 80k's....
WHAT COULD EB WRONG?
hey
I've noticed this recentlly in mine too...fuel economy has gone DOWN CRAAAAZZYYY...
I doubt a boot install could make that much of a difference..could it? :poke:
Maybe we're getting bad fuel from afghanistan or something.

Yeah my fuel economy has gone down the drain recently. I thought it maybe because i've thrashed the car really badly.
for me its just $20-$40 doesnt get me as far is it used to coz of ridicoulous petrol prices........115-118c for PULP, as opposed to 95-98ish a few months ago....

Well the 115c petrol prices has made me think twice about driving now. In my current situation, it is unaffordable. I can only drive to uni and to work, no more joy rides for me

has the motor lost power? it might be fairly simple but a hard to diagnose problem like a blocked cat or exhaust component.

I'm noticing a bit of a trend recently on here...including myself. Fuel economy out the window.
Sounds very conspiracy theory, but given the recent price hikes in the cost of oil, I would not mind betting that fuel companies are sticking other crap in their fuel to reduce overall costs. Not sure wether this would be done at the manufacturing level or at a distributor level, but its seems rather coincidental that everyone gets poor fuel economy when oil costs rise

Mines a bit down the tube at the moment too. I've been trying various tanks of premum vs unleaded to see if I could detect a difference (slight advantage to ultimate over optimax or pulp). Last tank was Caltex Vortex and that seemed to evaporate. L / km reading didn't change.. but I seem to have gotten quite a few less k's then usual.

i Remember when 65c was a regular price, and everyone was outraged when it went above 75!!
ahh well sh*t happens
whats the rough price of fuel in metro vic? I havent been out in a while... :doubt:
Oh and if it helps anyone.. my 93 4cyl TR gets 450ks a tank with BP ultimate nowdays. used to get around 410 with regular unleaded before i converted.
mines gone up the stinker in such a bad way.....
300km out of a tank... ??? :gtfo:
havnt lost any power or nething....
most prob caz i got the big ass mofo fuel pump in already before the rest of the mods

i got 280 from 3/4 of a tank, usually avg about 450 from a full tank
once car is low on fuel runs like a dog! i put it down to that im nearly at 95,000 km's and nearly time for big major service
And i wouldnt be surprised if the fuel was being crapped down to get the most out of us

When u say 80ks with over a 1/4 tank, were u on gas or petrol?
how many ks do u Usually get with each fuel type? just curious...

Come out of the cities and start paying for fuel.
The prices have been up here for ages. Actually arent all that bad at the moment. We payed 117.7 for optimax last week.
Having worked at a servo here it was very difficult coping with price increases - Bekky doesnt handle abuse well.
But around town we get about 500 to a tank and highway about 1000 (less i think..) but havnet noticed the economy change with the price hikes...

BUt prices have been ok here for a little bit, fingers crossed touch wood that they stay ok.
Yeah 117 isnt that bad here.... (cause thats from premium, making ULP like 109 i think)

Don't know as I don't have a trip computer. About 70% of my driving has been highway speeds but city driving has been normal driving which is slightly more spirited than grandpa Joe.

I get about 600 - 630 from the tank with about 11L left in the tank.
Considering the amount of ks my car has and goes through each week is a lot.
We fill up on petrol every week, and my car is auto with 214,000kms.
I also do some pretty good thrashing on the weekends with friends and i still end up with the same economy as the week before.

 I think there might be something wrong with my TH. I get about 450k's out of a full tank on average.
I don't get anything close to 600! And I've only got 90k's on the clock

well it could look like a commo if u kinda squint ur eyes enough until u dont see anything then it might look like one but even then im not sure.
And the only mods i have are muffler, pod and wheels and i want to get extractors to get economy down even more
just like redav get the 788 out of the tank with 4l left, and the same engine but mine has way more ks

No, I'm just saying that Commodores seem to regularily have economy around that point too. SC forum is full of them whinging about it. :)

Hmm, what causes such bad fuel efficency? Short of the obvious like a lead foot? :)

Maybe your cat is stuffed? I noticed at least 100km's difference in economy after headers and a high flow cat was fitted.

Hmm, thats a disturbing possiblity. Unfortunatly the business that owned the car before me 'lost' the service manual :swearing:
How much is a new high flow cat. I'm wondering if it's worth replacing the muffler and associated piping at the same time even though it's got wear left in it.

I was quoted $250 from Midas but they talked me out of it saying that the stock one was sufficient... but if it needs replacing... why not just go the hi flo

Is that city, highway, freeway driving?
 I think there might be something wrong with my TH. I get about 450k's out of a full tank on average.
All depends what kinda roads your driving on. Like i said before my 4cyl makes the same as urs with regular 80%highway drivin 20% city.
Straight freeway ill get a good 650 - 700ks :D
Try taking a nice loong drive somewhere see how the economy is, for a good test. Ill assume youd get the same to

Just kidding, but I've found highway driving doesn't seem to change the ratings much.
I should also mention that another symtom of a stuffed/dying cat is apparently less 'go' when you put your foot down. I've been experiencing this lately.
Is there any easy or cheap way to check for a stuffed cat?

My driving involves freeway and city, even peak hour traffic going to uni and then thrshing it on the weekend.
I drive about 65% freeway and about 35% city and that changes on what time i go to uni and wether i gotta go to the shops or not.
But i always seem to get the same economy as usual it dosent change a lot for me, and i thought that my new muffler cetainly gave better economy and thats why i want a custom 2.5" cat back and extractors to lean the engine out more.

If cai or pod setup make sure its screwed on tight!!!
I also question the amount of fuel I get in my take to what the pump says, I might be a little paranoid though

Youve probably got a split float in your fuel tank. (cant remember the correct name of it - ill check my receipts in the morning)
It happened on my car.. I was 'using' a full tank of fuel every 150km's.. But when i went to fill it up it would only take 20litres..
Take it to a fuel station, note how much fuel your guage registers, then fill the car up..
If fuel guage doesnt equal amount filled up then float = stuffed.
I was getting about 650 country km before everything went to hell in a handbasket. Never had the car out long enough to calculate economy on the other motor, and the sender kept failing.
/me looks longingly at the improvement in economy from a manual car. Should be enough to break the 10l/100km on country runs.
I get bout between 500-600 ks city driving (easy driving) and about 700ks on a highway run
Do any of you guys with the bad fuel consumption have oxy sensors and if so ever had them checked out as this can cause an increase in fuel consumption if it is cactus!! :D

Doesn't a bad oxy sensor flag a warning light?

I filled up today, took 38 litres for 320 kms of driving, about 11.8 ltrs/100kms, thats a little out from previous weeks, and doesnt match my computer either, although i haven't checked my computer this week. I would say thats close too about right for all city driving, with a 3.5 vrx, and i can be heavy on the throttle.
I will check what my economy is for this week, and check if it matches the computer. Here the fuel price was 1.07-1.09 for regular inleaded, and 129.00 for premium. I am little cut that my dads 2.1 tonne 4WD, gets better city and higway economy then me averaging 10-11 and 8-9 (respectively). but thats what happens when your running diesel.
