View Full Version : A couple more Vr4 pics (smaller this time)
Ok, got a coulple more pics
abit smaller in size.
Welll.. last night it pissed down rain so i was abit scared at first, wheelspin is happens as soon as the car leaves vacuum and hits boost, this happens in 1st, 2nd, and sometimes in 3rd. Its not too bad aslong as u can controll it, it was pretty crazy spinning from 1st gear to 4th. The scaryiest thing though was when i was taking a slight gradual left hand corner and the car started to wheel spin and then understeer, as the curb got closer i let of the gas and the wheels suddenly gripped and jerked the car to the left. i wasnt going fast but it was still abit of a shock. Apart from that im still loving life with the boost! :D

I'm currenetly saving up for the same conversion, I'm putting the 4G63 into my TN Elante, and was wondering about problems you may have encountered with driveshaft lengths and engine mounts, and maybe any other such stuff

Not abandoning power, just timing chain rattle!!
Not abandoning power, just timing chain rattle!!
OK. Different ways of doing it. I'm removing the balance shafts, which will eliminate the chain that usually rattles.

Yeah, my way was headin for the twin cam, turbo option.
I have some info about getting upto 450kw atw, this is in a lancer with a guy that has lot's of dosh though, I'm aiming for 270 with stock internals, (bar - piston's and rods)

hahahah hope u got a AWD conversion planned coz i reckon i got around 180-190 at the engine and its still very unpredicatble and in the wet no chance of traction on boost. the 4g63t is a very strong engine and with bolt on mods u can get alot of power i know some vr4 boys that are running the standard engine but with turbo and fuel mods that are putting out like 270@ all 4 wheels, with a FWD u will pull more due to less drivetrain loss

this is the only thing under bonnet wrong with my car dam crain rattle all the time going to get it fix but reg comes 1st, hard to do youself? and can it be done without removing the motor? had my bro inlaw jump in my car today VT owner and i wasnt even pushing it he said '**** this go's" guess im just used to it
man that conversion looks sick are those pipes being external legal?

Yeh the car has full engineers certificate which basically means it complies with all the ADR rules...im pretty sure that the law on piping and coolers are that they r not allowed to extended further out that the front bumper.

So what did you end up doing for a gearbox? And what turbo are you running? How much boost?
gearbox is a Jap Vr4 switchable that has been locked into FWD, Turbo is a stock TD05 14b running 9-10psi. I wanna upgrade to a Evo 3 turbo eventully

It's lowered about an inch in the front but 3 inches in the back and it's still an inch higher than the front. The rims are just some TSW 5 spokes, pretty boring really, I'm just gunna give em a face lift with a white powder coat and some ralliart stickers

Nah I'm just gunna keep it as FWD, but I''m a mechanic so I've got some ties with drivetrain places the could wip me up a split LH driveshaft to reduce torque steer, and traction is all about choice of tyre. I run Goodyear Ventura's at the moment a great all round tyre and the water runs out of them nicely because of the direction grooves.

Looks good, what did it cost you for the springs? Obviously you did the labour yourself as your a mechanic...

Hey Sogg, i got a few questions for you.
1. How much did you get the complete engine for including ecu.
2. How much hp does this thing produce with and without turbo (just the engine)
3. Would the conversion be easier if i were to put it in a Holden Gemini since its rwd ?
BTW, since this conversion was a pain in the ass and costed so much, you should sell vr4 conversion kits like they do on http://www.v6conversions.com.au/ :) (obviously for the vr4 and not the v6 lol)

1. engine was $2500 for engine package which was engine, loom and ecu
2. its 152kw with turbo for a normal jspec vr4, 179kw for jspec RS model and without its like 104kw
3. i reckon it would be alot harder as vr4 engines run east west and are not designed to be run in rwd. but hey if u got enuff money anything can be done

That XF has an XG grille, so his Elante doesnt really look like an XF :p
I guess mine does too :)

Nah, he meant XG, the ute that came out the same time as the ea. The ea grill is thicker and shorter than the xg and wouldn't fit into the xf. Sorry! old ford fan. Just a big know it all i guess :)
