g'day guys i've only just gotten my tr (efi model) i wanted to know if a K&N mitsubishi only pod filter and adapter would be better than putting in a panel filter and a cold air intake. Also how do you make up a cold air intake. Thanks in advance

pod filters are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooo gay i have one, on my ts it was costing me about .7seconds down the quarter, judging on cars i had a go at, made me slower than ecotec auto.... :doubt:
Even when setup with piggyback they are only as effective as a similar panel setup (in n/a applications). You'll find it hard to do a cai in the tr ts because of the stock airbox positioning, i dont know anyone on here thats done one but you should be able to find someone. Basically you buy flexible pipe from hardware store and other bits and pieces and start hacking.

there are plenty of guys here that have done it with cai, they have proven there is a slight performance increase, without the CAI its just circulating hot air, thus no increase in performance there. Ive got a pod on my TR, havent got around the making a CAI enclosure, bit of a pain and waste of time/money.
i was about to get a K&N air pod and some piping to make my own CAI...
TR-ENVY has done a CAI on his car, but its the 4cyl. same positioning with the air filter as the v6 engine, and he says he found a considerable difference on his car... if i can remember
wat i was gonna do is hav the pipe go from the T/B down to the front of my car behind the bumper and hav an airpod stuck there, so then i get direct cold and clean air to the T/B

thanks for the mention, i wasn't gonna post because some say my cai is "dodgy". I found slight increases, mainly in high speed, say on the freeway, my rpm dropped doing 100km/h, wants to go abit quicker. I just recently reconnected the stock intake and got an even bigger gain, so now i have a cai and stock intake and both seem to be working well. I've got a k&n panel filter though, not a pod. pod was too awkward to work with.
Only prob with that idea hojo is the mas is facing the wrong way, you'd have to modify it somehow.

thanks for that guys i have heard that if you use a round pod filter with the magna it can stuff up readings from the MAF sensor (http://www.fastmagna.com/tech/tech1.html) also what do the doxes behind the MAF sensor do would it cause a problem if I took them out to do what hojo was thinking of doing as this sounds like it would achieve the coldest air.

are you talking about the honeycomb boxes just before the mas?? If so leave it in, can't remember but it has something to do with readings, i wouldnt risk it.

nah i don't know if they had them on the v6's but on the fours there's two boxes between the MAF sensor and the throttle body. I have no idea what they're for and I was thinking of removing them to make a cold air intake.

These are the resinator boxes, removing them will not help with cai as you have to ahve the cai before the MAS to sthe MAS can measure the volume of air passing through to the engine.
I removed mine, was ok on a cool night but crap during a hot day, put them back on in the end.

Thanks for that madmagna I was thinking of removing the resonator boxes and moving the fuse box so that I could have a cai btwn the bonnet and radiator. I would then put the MAS btwn the cai and the throttle body. Sorry about the late reply :naughty: :badpc:
