hey all, got this little chattering noise from tha good 'ol gearbox. took it to my mechanic a few months ago and his transmission mate said its nothing really to worry about as long as the noise doesnt come internal. well its ****in nannoyin, so just wondering if anyone ellse has had this problem with their manual gearbox. i know malcom has. if so wat did you guys do? ive had the oil changed, it didnt help much. think the only way is to get a new box, right?

Trav mate - this is the loose thrust bearing - the only way to fix it is to pull off the box and replace the bearing - not expensive if you do it at home - but annoying cos the box is a part you dont wanna be taking off everyday.

It has no affect on your car at all and the only thing is it makes the irritating noise - I used to have the same problem with it irritating me but now I know what it is it is fine.

I also changed my G/Box oil to a full synthetic and it made no difference (to the noise that is - the box is much smoother in shifting though when warmed up) so don't worry about it.

I know it is annoying - but live with it!!
