I'm going an all new donk in the TS next wednesday! I'm getting it from some mob in melbourne who totally rebuild mitsu engines. They put in all new internals and machine the old block and machine the heads. I'm up for $2450 for the base engine, prob $3,500 installed and new oil, coolant, belts, hoses etc. My mechanic reckons he can do it in a day, i reckon it'll take 2 but if its one, i'm happy.
While everythings out i'll get the O2 sensor installed on the extractors.
On monday seeing i've got the day off, i'm off to my exhaust place and he's gonna put in a stainless intake pipe up to my pod. Once the new engine is in i'll start work on my carbon/kevlar air box and cold air intake :D
I'll try and get some shots while the engine is out!

Excellent! Sounds like gold mate! Let us know how you go with it all, you will basically be driving a new car :D

So are we talking factory internals or nice new A/M internals for some more hardcore driving??

I wish i was going A/M internals! All i know is that they're aftermarket internals and that all their engines are rebuilt the same and they can't do a one off with a big bore and head work. If i was to do that i'd be up for 6-7 grand without a warrenty, i also get 18 months unlimited warrenty with the new engine.
I was just gonna go RPW stage 1 heads but i knew if i did that, something else would die and the circle would just go round and round. Once i pay off the laon i might go new heads, but in the meantime i'll prob just get go fast plugs, leads, FPR unit and any other external stuff i can get

Sounds good, i can't wait to hear the difference it makes.

Is it the same engine you've currently got?

Good luck anyways...

Yeah exactly the same, still a SOHC 12V  but seeing it's a fresh engine with a pod and extractors, she should go hard!

In the TR/TS Magnas they had a 6G72 SOHC 12 valve 3.0 V6. They were mounted on the passenger side of the engine bay. IE, the throttle body and air intake is on the left
In the TE+ with the 6G72 SOHC 24v 3.0l and 6G74 24v 3.5L they were mounted on the left side of the engine bay. ie: the throttle body and air intake is on the right.
So unfortunately any V6 motor from the TE+ will not go in the TR/TS models.
But the good news is that the 3000GT motor, 6G72 DOHC 24v (in it's naturally aspirtated form..unsure of the TT version) bolts straight into the TR/TS models.
Good news for TE+ owners though is that the 6G72 24v DOHC MIVEC bolts in.

Is the reason the engines in the TE to present are mounted on the drivers side (left hand side looking from the front of the car) to accomodate for left hand drive conversions for the yankees?
:?

Im not sure why there was the change...but I dont see how driving on the other side of the road would have anything to do with where your engine is placed. lol
Otherwise VW Beetles would be screwed! haha
They'd have to drive backwards :P lol

I'm pretty sure your talking about the turbo 4 that you have and i've got the six. Also running cost and insurance would be a nightmare with a turbo under the hood. Even with a good driving record i'm only 19

Ok fair enough... you are off the hook THIS time...
I find it hard to beleive that no one is keen on the setup...
It has every thing and goes like a cut cat. :(

TZA...can we get a company number?

I'd get the turbo setup your talking about in a second!
Insurance would be a pain, but I would work around it (as I'm also 19).
But its the fact that I don't have a spare $3000+ to spend on my car :D
How much money did he put into it anyway, must of been heaps by the sounds of everything done.

There is a place in sydney called GEM engines who do total engine rebuilds, but the mob my mechanic is going through is in melbourne. He says cheaper and a better engine. I'll get the name off him on wednesday when she goes in for you

Yeah i did. He offered a replacement of rings and bearing but keeping the existing internals. As for the top end he was just going to repair the top end, no new springs or cams. For the extra money i'm spending with a total rebuild, i get an 18 month unlimited k's warrenty, and pretty much the only old parts of the engine is the block and the heads which are machined neway. My mechanic also guarenteed a slight increase in power over a new stock engine, and with my extractors and pod, she'll go alright

It'll be slow for the 1st 1000km's, after that it's party time and off to the dyno and drags!!!

New engines usually waste old gear boxes and differentials. How old is the tranny?

Well the car has done 256,000kms, highway k's i've been told but i haven't had a problem with the box, it still feels nice, not too gritty and all the sinqro is still in there

It's in, now i just gotta take it easy for 1000km's or so, once thats over i'll be back to normal.
My mechanic also ported out my intake manafold and entry to the heads, and also the exhaust ports to the headers. won't make much difference but it all adds up

Actually the sohc 12v responds well to porting and polishing.

Well it wasn't much of a port and polish, he just gave it a buzz with the porter and just made it a little bit oversized. better than nothing :D
