Nothing really wrong with them apart from SQ when you are giving them a caning - but nothing really great either. There is better value for money out there at that price point.
A mate has a pair in his, also from Repco, along with a 12" sub-in-a-box. It sounds okay at medium level (nothing great) but it does hit hard. Once he turns it up they sound horrible and muddy - I think he is running the amp too hard or is clipping his inputs on the amp.
Not bad for the money, I personally have Pioneer TS-A695 6x9's in my 3rd Gen. They are awesome for the money I paid for them ($139, RRP was $199 at the time). They were purchased at Autobarn during one of their sales. The pioneers are a bit bright (treble) for my liking, but for 140 bux, who cares.
Full list of my equipment: Alpine MDA-7755R MiniDisc head unit, with CDA-5755 CD player/DSP, Sony XM222MKII amp driving Pioneer TS-G1650 coaxials in the front, and a Sony XM444 amp, 2 channels driving Pioneer TS-A6955 6x9's in the rear, the other two channels bridged into a Sony XSL1220 12" sub in sealed 30L box.
I need much more front stage. Splits coming once my GT4-12 JBL's are in a box and amped with Megatron's JL.
Is there a reason why you're looking at upgrading the rear speakers at all? Seeing as you're sitting at the front and your ears face forwards, I would suggest you concentrate on better front speakers and sound deadening / diffusing if you haven't already done so champ. :)

Front Stage is sounding great, Just need more Bass and I do not want to install a Sub or Amp in this car so 6x9's are the obvious choice..
All I really want is to replace the 6x9's with a Bass heavy set of 6x9's that will hide under the factory covers..
Now I'm not sure but I'm assuming your speakers are in the doors? If not ignore this post.
Before you do anything, are your front doors fully sound deadened like this (http://www.fastfoursforumscarclub.com/temp/fhrxstudios/photogallery_int.asp#interest4)?
With all due respect it sounds to me like one too many salesmen might have been in your ear. Before you do anything at the back of the car, double the amount of sound deadening you have at the front and ensure you have diffusers in there. You'll find you get a alot more bass (both upper subbass and midbass) at the front where you are.

i have kicker speakers front and rear.
Kicker splitz in the front sound incredible everyone comments on there clarity so very happy.
teh 6X9s though dont have a great deal of bass but treble and mids are good, very nice coupled with subs. as for your application i would steer clear of the kicker 6X9s i dont think they will give the bass respocne u are after

I agree with Marty, u'll get heaps better midbass response by deadening and also sealing up any service holes on ur front doors.
Rear fill is a waste of money. Leave them stock until you've got a decent front setup. better off spending money on an amp for the fronts imo.

if ur after rear fill speakers with bass
u cant go past some good old kenwood 7x10's without amping. !!
thes will be best for money, and they pack some punch !

No, Amps, No Subs as I have stated I want straight of the Head unit....
Headunit is 45x4 and thats plenty good enough for me...I have been through the Whole " My Subs thump harder then yours:" thing in my last Two rides and this one is going to remain very simple..
Splits and 6x9's and thats all , no amps no EQ's no Power wires no RCA's just plain normal easy to live with Upgraded factory system that will be just at home playing AM radio as it is with Death metal..
My Front stage is Perfect, nice Deep rich Mids with over bright Clarity ( I have the Tweeter mounted well up near the Rubber Bit on the side Windows.. I am plent happy with it.. I want some 6x9's to boost the 70Hz to 80Hz I don't need my front stage improved on as it is great the way it is now...
6x9's will fill in that gap and Thats alll...

Perfect and overly bright are two different things
Consider mounting your tweeters near the woofer either low in the doors or in the kickpanels to avoid separation. This will decrease path difference giving driver and passenger better stereo imaging.
45w out of a headunit ends up being around 15 w rms... if you're happy with these kind of levels then that's all that matters as you are the one who will be enjoying them. Just be aware that your headunit will start distorting at around 3/4 volume.
My suggestion... If you are planning on getting a sub later... Don't bother upgrading 6x9's... they will just interefere with everything later on, they over-pronounce midbass generally and don't get near the response of high quality 6.5" drivers.
If you're set on not having a sub you can also consider getting 6.5" splits for the rear and a simple baffle to mount it on.
As for the best 6x9 I can't help you out there... The fact is that good car audio companies don't make high quality 6x9's. I've heard some Pioneer 6x9's that had some really nice bass(mounted on baffles)
When running off your headunit the bass response won't be as good as off an amp the headunit just won't have enough juice to get them moving.
Peace

maybe I should have worded it more carefully..
My front stage is extremely well balanced untill I turn the treble too high
It sounds similiar to a Set of Hifi Two way book shelf speakers, Nice punch but not as brilliant in the low end as a say a Floor mounted tower Hi-fi speaker system..
Thats what the 6x9's will do, fill in what the fronts are unable to do due to the relatively small Chamber of air they have behind them..
The 6x9's I have now are $15 Avalanche fake 3-ways, while the do offer nice Low end, they distort far too quickly as they are essentially a single cone Woofer..Not to mention, they are falling apart really quickly and are showing signs of rattly Voice coil..
So I am hoping to find a 6x9 that will sit in as snugly as the Avalanches have, yet have superior durability and possibly better Quality sound....

hey i have the kicker 6x9''s im not using them for base tho, just for a lil sound for the unlucky suckers in the back seat.
they arnt the best out there(but far from the worst) but if your after sound quality a 6x9 speaker is the wrong choice anyway.6' sound better just about any day of the week.
i had a ***** of a time trying to get my kicker 6x9's into the origional holes.i ended up making a panel out of mdf and mounting them just under the steel shelf.doesnt sound too bad.
but im only offering treble thru them so it wont matter so much to me.if your after base i dont know how that will be for you.
boot is big, lots of free air thats all.
