Any Newcastle folk in here who can recommend somewhere to buy audio gear and have it installed? Preferrably reasonably priced, but also must be friendly and happy to take the time with you. I've found JB's to be cheap, but too busy to give you the time, and Newcastle Pro Sound to be a snobbish bunch of jerks. Anyone else around?
Also, when you get speakers installed at JB's or whereever (not talking about the big guns here) do they generally do it with the proper sound deadening and all, or just whack 'em in the hole?

hey dude,
I would stay right away from prosound there guys just try and push the brands they make the most money from. If you goto jb hifi and talk to simon in the car audio section you will find him very helpful, and he knows what he is talking about. Also if you need any help in workin out gear i would be glad to help and simon would give me an excelent price for ya.
also all installers will only do as much or as little as you ask. but yeah i dotn really truct any installers prefer to do it all my self.
anyways hopefully that helps pm me for any more info

Id have to say prosound but my mate works their so i get on with em all. But they are abit pushy to people they dont know but they sell the best brands in newie so its abit of a trade off.

hmm bets brands in newy. interesting i was there a while ago and they were tring to sell em sony sayign it was the best brand in the world. i know a fair bit about car sound and if there is any brand on the market that i would say stay away from ti is sony as the name it self says sony XPLODE, but yes the sell sum reasonible brands ie alpine and the like. But any shop can get any brand if they want. they choose to stock particular brands over others but they can still egt the others. Personally i prefer to buy my gear from people who actually know what they are talking about, and that dont try to sell inferior brands just to make more money
thats my 2 cents anyways sorry if i offended or upset any1

I've always found prosound to be good i've had head decks installed by them and my alarm also. JB i wouldn't let install anything in my car with a ten foot pole as they stuffed up and installation for my mate and wouldn't take responsibility for it so prosound fixed it.
Straifield are good in price terms i got my sub etc from them cheap my speakers came from JB and i installed all that myself as it's simple.
But for other audio installaions i would go for prosound.

ok as for installs thats even more reason to stay away from prosound, Not many people know this but i used to install stereos and we used to get called up by prosoudnt o come fix there mistakes. there installers are very half rate, i also wouldnt let jb hifi install either. galexy do an ok job but i personaslly think when it coems to installs do it ya self it really isnt that hard

I didn't really mean to start a war between the installers here.. The only time I went to NPS it was full of "yeah fully sik maaate" doof-doof types and the sales guy gave me the impression he was too, and not interested in talking to some loser who only wanted to buy a $300 headunit. He was pushing Clarion pretty hard too and I was only really interested in Pioneer.
Fhrx: Do you guys cater for the bottom end of the budget scale too?

I think it might have been Simon I spoke to a couple of weeks ago on the phone. Seemed pretty helpful, and I even booked the car in for the install for the following Saturday. Then I got in there and stood around and got totally ignored, ended up walking out. They lost a guaranteed $700+ sale.

Argh, this is annoying. I refuse to go back to JB's after my last experience, and Strathfield want $119 more for the same headunit. *grumble*

try Nova Car Systems at the Junction. Bought a pioneer deck off them 5 years ago and their installs are excellent.

Never heard of them. Thanks for the tip, I'll call them tomorrow.
Edit: Failing that, I'll try Prosound.. :)

Woohoo. Called Nova today, and the headunit I want is $31 cheaper than at JB's and $150 cheaper than Strathfield. *And* their install charge is $28 less. Score! It's booked in for tomorrow morning. And yeah I know I could do it myself but for $60, screw it! :)
Thanks Chooky, I owe ya one :)
Edit: My $10 donation just paid for itself 3 times over ! :)

Righto...
Went into Nova Car Systems today and got my new hadunit installed, a Pioneer DEH-5750. Pretty pleased with it so far. Just wanted to let you Newy guys know that I highly recommend Nova - no bull, no waiting, no hassle. Booked it in, dropped it off, picked it up, no hassles.
Extra points to the guy (Ray) for offering to give me a short lesson on how to use it, and even took the time to explain what volume/equaliser settings to limit myself to because of the OEM speakers. Well done Nova, I'll be going back there next time.

Told ya you'd be happy mate, I don't take my recommendations lightly as if they're not good it makes me look bad, but I knew you'd be pleased with their work.... :D

Yeah, a million times better than the jerks over at JB's. My only whinge was one side of the air vent surround was loose. Not sure if it was like that at first, I only noticed it when I was almost home. Once I got home I pushed it in and it seems to have clicked into place ok. If it comes loose again I'll go back.
You're more than welcome to buy it off us of course. ;)
Well we don't have any Sound4 $18 headunits but we do cater for modest (I don't like to call them cheap :) ) budgets yes. :)
