Hello all,
Just noticed some surface rust on a scratch on my newly acquired 2003 Magna.
Should this be sanded back and resprayed or should I apply a ust converter - it claims to chemically make the rust inert and seal the area?
Also anyone know any good panel beaters / touch-up people in Melbourne? I live in Richmond.
Thanks for your help!

Always better to fully strip back and respray but this can be expensive, The rust converter does an ok job

I would only ever sand it back.
Seen too many Rustkill applications painted over that bubbled the paint after 6 months, or worse, started rusting again under the paint.

Easy fix (if it's ONLY on the surface due to a scratch) to stop it permanently is to apply Rainex with a fine brush to the area and then use a touch up "lipstick" style paint to cover.
Make sure you prime it or the Rainex will damage the new paint.

Where did you learn the Rainex trick from Wagon? And how does that work?!

Well what good is the 'perforation' warranty? I'm just curious what that actually covers?

Lol - must be if the rust manages to eat through the panel within 3 years. Maybe I should give it a hand lol

Where abouts is the rust because a few years back I heard new falcons got surface rust in the door sills because they sit them in paddocks with long grass. The grass with dew water then creeps in under the door and rusts or something like that. I saw it once on a new EF wagon years back.

It is on the right side, just in front of the front wheel arch, just above where the plastic bit meets the metal bit - there is a clear scratch there.
