EZ boy, any chance of getting measurements on your enclosure for your pod filter. How did you attach it to the MAS sensor?

I'm expecting a slow day at work so I'll get the measurement of my current box. There are things I would have done differently so I'll endeavour to redesign it with those in mind.
Post some details/pics by Thurs at the latest. I've got touch footy and pays to do Wed.
For those surfing this thread and are scratching their heads, here's some pics:

Ha! I actually had my thinking hat on that day and left enough room to slide the filter forwards off the lip and then out the top of the box quite comfortably. It was trying the line up the vertical bolts and angle channel for a slick fit that had me scratching my head. The thing is I glued it all together in the excitement and then looked at it holding the lid and though "Aw, f*ck! How am I gunna do this???!!!" A lot of guestimating saved the day. In future I would obviously incorporate the drilling into the base template.
The box is made of 4mm thick acrylic sheet. Cut to template and glued with this head-spinning glue esp made for acrylic - apparently.
Joined to the chassis hey? Hmm. :shifty: It just rests on top of the old airbox mount. I have some adheasive rubber/foam under it to minimise friction. I've taken it off to check wear and there's nothing bad happening anywhere.
My Magna is getting serviced next week, luv to be a fly on the wall when they pop the hood lol

Thanks for the tip. But what do you mean by cut to template?
Also how did you get it to attach to the MAS sensor? Took a look at mine last night and it is not excatly a flush fit. Did you have to cut any groves into the arylic piece that meets up with the MAS sensor?

You could use some gasket rubber cut out to right shape then clamp it down on that. It worked for me on my old car with a boxed pod.

This is f**ken awesome mate.....Do you think you could possibly write up some sort of tutorial or just the measurements and materials used, and a rough outline of the process, would be much appreciated.
Just one question I have on the side. When we modify air intakes like this, would an insurance company have anything to say about this or is it ok to do this without telling them?

Off the top of my head..... I'd say anything that involves an aftermarket/custom airbox would be something an insurance company *could* use as an excuse to void a claim. I've spoken to reps from my insurer on many occasion about how mods will affect my policy - and although they don't have anything that specifically mentions - air filter, CAI, Air box's, POD's etc, I think they might try and class it under "increased engine output".
If in doubt - ring them and enquire before hand, at least then you'll know where you stand. or switch to someone like Shannons or Just Car who will cover unlimited mods. I can get one more "Mod" (by their definition) done.... once I'm ready to exceed this, it'll be Just Car - here I come.

Hey where did ya get the acrylic sheets from? Just a Hardware store?

Here are the dimensions of my airbox. Hope you all get your hands dirty this weekend!!
Acrylic sheet can be bought in sheet or cut to your specs by a signage company that does illuminated signs, perspex suppliers etc.

Hi mate
Nice looking setup! could you possibly list the materials you need for the actual CAI section of the mod basically from the rubber plumbers joint down to the snorkel at the bottom (i.e what thickness did you use and is it just painted pvc?
thanks

What would look trippy is a fully clear pod box or fluro green etc. Something a bit bazaar. Something that makes the service guy call all the other mechs (if that's what they *really* are. *cough*) over to oggle.

Out of curiosity, would it make a difference if you increase the size of the box, or intake pipe (im thinking about 100x50 downpipe or something simlier, wrapped in sisalation)

I used these sizes because it was the largest pipe I could squeeze thru and the box I keep that size so again it would squeeze in behind the battery etc.
I'm having a debate with TH Smoker about intake pipe diameters, but in the end we're only human and have budgets to adhere to.

make sure that the clear perspex isnt going to melt in the engine bay. Also you will need some clear glue so it doesnt look crap. You can also get clear perspex pipe and if its going to get really sad then you must use leds or cold cathodes to do blue backlighting.

Um, I'll try, but it's honestly exactly as you see it. A dremel or similar is very helpful when cutting the hole for the MAS to enter the box. The bolts and wing nuts are 5mm, bought in blister packs from bunnings. I used aluminium angle iron to mount the bolts that hold the lid on. This was lying around at the carwash so I found a purpose for it. I mean, everyone needs *purpose*.
You do need special glue suited to the type of material you're building the box from, in my case this was Acrylic. Oh yeah, the glue's carcinagenic :dancin:
:coffee: Gotta run, hope this gets you moving.

Oh no, Something else im gonna have to do now to stand out
By The way I work at bunnings so basic perspex, glue and other bits and pieces are cheap. :D

Will those measurements fit a 2nd gen? I know the intake on the 2nds are on the other side of the engine but hey.

I can't say for sure, but if you can get the pod into your engine bay then you can definately make a box for it. The spec's I've give provide a deep base to support the box in the bay where a bolt previously secured the OE airbox to the chasis. I did look at a TR a LONG time ago and my memory has truely left me of that event. My photo archive of that event only shows the TB.
Do you have an existing CAI??

im so tempted to make a custom one with cool leds shining into it to make it look "fully sik" but then i remember im trying to sell my car not mod it more. Looks like some good notes youv put together then Ian, ill still be here long after my car sells just to read up on all the mods for my next magna which i already have too many ideas for and not enough money
thanks for the rap too

hey EZ Boy,
why the step in the box?
couldn't you just have a 280 x 180 x 200 box,
or is there something in the way

The AWD has some hoses that need to bypass the 5spd auto housing and make a neat box pretty tricky. You could always make a slimline box, I chose this profile to catch water and grit etc that made it into my cai and to prevent the cai and intake from sagging.
