hey guys
last time i was at the drags i tried to drop a standie on the burnout pad of the startline. Thing is when i dumped the clutch abs kicked in and let the handbrake off slowly therfore i couldnt sit in the one spot, or even drag the locked rear wheels.
how do i get rid of abs for the night? is it just a fuse?

your handbrake isn't controlled by anything other than a cable and a lever.
your handy is either broken or your too weak.

i **** u not its connected, cause the ABS light comes on when i do it
Yes there is a fuse for abs, the only thing is your dash warning light for the abs will remain on, it should succesfuly turn off the abs

Aust Laws disallow any hydrolic or electronic control over the Park Brake for obvious reasons.
follow the cable if you dont believe me.

fair enough, not going to cause an argument
the reson the abs light flashes when the hanbrake is applied is that the abs speed sensor is reading that the brakes are locked in and the vehicle is moving and hence will try to activate, as there is no cut off for when the hanbrake is engaged.

yep.
adjust ur handbrake, or spin the wheels faster. that'll put less strain on the rear and it might stay in the one spot

my mothers car is a hydrolic hanbrake!! you gotta use your foot!! how annoying is that!!

I don't want to start a argument but you are wrong there, I work at audi and both the new A6 and A8 have electronic handbrakes, they have an electric motor on each rear caliper.

perhaps the standards have changed. i know hydrolic handbrakes like rally cars have are quite illegal still

Booya,
Your mums car is a Merc right? U will probly find that it is still a cable operated park brake, u just apply it with your foot.

My guess is you are thinking abot line lockers, which drag guys commonly use, yes they are illeagal on the road, most drag guys use them to isolate and lock the front brakes so they can spin the rear wheels easier,

the big bad tj just uses a basic cable handbrake set up (nothing technical).....the abs light flashes due to the difference in wheel speed ie rear stopped...front 40kph. Anything related to the abs circuit will disable it...pull the abs fuse and all will be A1.
as for handbrake setups i am unsure of electronic handbrake legalities but if they are on audi from factory it will not be a prob..(i am guessing they are an electric motor driving a mechanical screw or mechanism..this is mechanical with electric assist therfore still legal) (am i right jake?)
Hydraulic are a no no due to the fact that after having pressure applied fo a long period of time the seals tend to weep causing the handbrake to become less effective and you to walk out in the morning with youre pride and joy in next doors yard.

I have a auto and tried this (never again) the abs cut in and the abs light and traction control light(which wasnt on btw) the lights stayed on and would not go out until i switched the car off and on again.Scared the crappers out of me thought i stuffed the car!!!! :bowrofl:

Yea you have the idea, the rear calipers are still normal, they just have a electric motor on the back of them to wind the piston in or out, pretty simple realy, but yes i have seen one fail and lock one rear wheel!

hey problem solved dont smoke em!!! you are wasting your time/tyres unless you got slicks this will slow you down and make it easier to spin, tried it a few times, only got slow times due to crap starts

im not looking to do a smoke show, i just dont want to creep 4ward so fast. the handbrake was adjusted at last servive cause its under warrenty and i was lazy so maybe it was just that.

Well just after my mums car got serviced and the handbrake was adjusted it would hold the arse very well but now its stretched and it does creep forward. so id say ur handbrake was just not tight enough.

I wouldn't say ABS is causing your problems dude. On a non traction control equipped vehicle, ABS cannot activate itself unless you have the brake pedal down.
For a TCS-equipped car may be a different story, I don't know whether TCS is really disabled when you hit the TCS switch to disable it (What i mean is it might still be running the background for "extreme" cases).

Don't do a burnout, you probably don't have a need to do one.

i just have to get the water off my tyres from driving over the burnout pad, there isnt really a way around it.

Ahh... fair enough. At Willowbank it's possible to avoid the water on one side. I just drive off the track :bowrofl:

Nope - if TCS is switched off, it definitely keeps its nose outta your business.
(I've been experimenting...! :D )
Mitsu TCS turns itself back on after you shutdown and restart though.

The TRACE system still runs though but I can't imagine it affecting launches.

TH smoker and i both have TH advances with ABS... we didn't have any problems when doing a line locker..

I don't think it is the ABS kicking in, just a lack of left arm strength!
If it is the ABS or traction control, I suppose you could tap into the power for said system AFTER THE FUSE and put an isolation switch on it.
Could put it under a missile switch to make it nice and safe.
I think it would probably be causing alot of ADR headaches due to the fact it is a safety system that you are mucking around with. May even get you a big red defect.

Maybe the mighty maggie is so powerful that the handbrake can't keep it still.
I tried a line lock one night (my friend called my car a stroked hyundai sonata and said I had to do a burnie to prove it wasnt) he was joking by the way. :D
Anyway, thought I'd give it a shot as I hadn't done a line lock in the maggie before. Reefed the handbrake up, right toot on the gas, stalled it up and the stinking front hoops dragged the car up the street!

a few burnouts iv done bring on the ABS warning light, and 3 out of 5 times on the dyno its done it too, its just tell you there is something wrong with the ABS system because the back wheels arnt moveing and and the front wheels are doing 100+kmh, wont hert anything, the ecu's just going wtf's going on all 4 wheels should be spining???
i advise everyone to test there ABS on a patch of grass, the first time can be scary with the brake pedal being pushed back towards your foot and it does'nt sound very nice when the ABS is working
