Just got my valve seals replaced after living with a trail of white smoke behind me for several months... On really bad days it would cover the whole street if its been idling for too long :doubt:

Been holding it off for a while because i wanted to find someone who would do it for a good price and be relaible. If any of you with a 2.6 have looked into replacing the seals through a mechanic the quotes you would get can range from 300-450

Anyway long story short, an AM member in Vic opened a shop 3 weeks ago in West Heidleberg. Ryan (Rhino) is the guy, $190 for the valve seals and rocker cover gasket and seals etc.
Top bloke, even fixed up my timing for me amongst other stuff that was helpful. If your in vic definately give him a buzz, theyr good guys  and knows his magnas

Anyway the point of the thread was to ask how much other people had been paying to replace the seals? If you know your stuff it can be done at home, $40 worth of rubber seals. Its just a bit*h to do..
Anyone do it themself? Howd u go?

Can be done if you know what you're doing, but if its your first time
there's a good chance you might drop a valve into the hole.
I never dared...

A great idea is to borrow a spare head with valvetrain and do a practice run first.
Heaps of cracked AstronII heads, just ask any shop and they'll have freebies.

my mechanic quoted me about $120/$130 for the seals, but he told me he hates doing them.

Yeaa. its easy when you have someone who can give ya a discount. Its a ***** of a job..

Even using the spark plug holes to lift the valves is a a pain in the ass.

Samurai was gonna remove the head and all to do his, do some other work to the engine while he was there. Dunno if hes started yet

On the 4cyl it is a very easy job, the 6 is also easy, but a bit more fiddly
