Hey,
Im buying some speakers and have noticed that my TS has factory pre-made holes and screw mountings in the back shelve for 6x9s. Now the problem is that the actual factory positioning of the speaker assembly is ugly as hell  . The 6x9s if fitted in the factory holes sit not with it's 9" side to face the back seat or the back window but with its 6" side, so they are squeezed into the far sides of the shelve insted of being nicely spread. Its ugly, so Im thinking of getting some 6" instead and do some extensins to make them fit. Will they play as well (if its the same brand), do they have as good bass as 6x9s or not? Dillemma

Yea it is kinda ugly.. but you get used to it.
the 6x9 oval woofer is designed for enhanced bass compared to a circle woofer. Some people recon theyr better than 6" some people prefer 6x9's..
My opinion is if you dont have a sub, go for the 6x9's. A decent set, amped sound really good and handle bass alot better than most 6"s.

yeah 6x9s produce more bass due to their greater surface area, also it sounds as if your describing your 6x9s are meant to run parallel with the side of the car??

Although I have a Pajero now I just stuck in some 6x9's. I want a sub but I also have to beable to take that out so I needed something with a good sound. I prefer clarity and sound quality over voloume and bass so I just installed a set of Diamond Audio M3 6x9's and they are a sweet speaker. Crystal clear and good midbass punch. Total smoothness. Highly recommend if SQ is a foremost thing...
Now to save and buy the Diamond Audio HEX splits for the front.... :D

i rekon the 6x9s look alright in the parcel shelf, i had alpine type s's in mine and they looked kool
Yea man have you actually seen speakers mounted like that yet? Because like you i thought itd look stupid, but once i put them in i loved the way they looked. I'll take a pic tomorrow so you can see what they look like.

That is very true :D I put 6x9's in the back of mine too, i thought it would look ugly the way that they have to be put in, but now that they are in, it actually looks pretty good. :D

I just put brand new Pioneer TS-A6970E 3-way 6x9s in my back. They are unamplified (uni student budget here  ) and they still sound like subs. 6x9s do sound much better than 6s so if you have spots for 6x9s then use them. Doesnt really matter if theyre ugly. remember the point of a speaker is to sound good, looks come second.
