Boys and eek...

 lol
I'm looking for a better way to mount my iPod. The last spot looked good, but was too hard actually cycle thru tracks. Just too dangerous to do while driving. Was easy as pie to pick the next track / play / pause.

At the moment I've removed the suction mount and just fold the cable up into the ashtray for stealth when parked. Then just extend it through the ashtray and usually leave the ipod upside down in the small compartment infront of the Glovebox. Got sick of plugging the remote in and out everytime I get in the car though, so that got unplugged.

So I'm after some ideas

Any thoughts on making the belkin lead retractable? Surely there's something I can buy for this.
(the belkin cable can be put anywhere I guess) I can just extend the power and rca lead as far as need be.
So any other thoughts on mounting (Eek?? :P ). I want to be able to quickly grab it and cycle through tracks. Almost impossible to do without holding it.
Also has to keep with the stealth theme, so no noticeable damage to the dash.

Thanks guys

Peace

Tim

Ummm.. i dunno but is the ipod suspect to magnetic force?

you could get a powerful small magnet and stick it on a flat surface behind the steering wheel. I bought one of those for my mobile phone, comes with a small flat peice of metal to stick under the back of the phone cover. So they stay together.

If you understand what im saying you can do somthing like that.

As for the cord, open up the dash a little bit and hide the wire so only a bit sticks out, enough to reach the ipod when its mounted on the magne,

i did this with my phone and the handsfree kit, but i dont have a clear pic of the setup

thats an idea :)

iPods have hard drives apart from shuffle, keep magnets away! :badpc:

Wow, would never have thought of that... was certainly creative... :)

I think it would still work, but want someone else to try the magnet idea first ;) Not too sure how susceptible they are
Thanks!!!

Keep em coming...

Will prob need a bit of reach on the cable so I can grab it and change tracks.

damn, its 1am and you're asking questions like these!

u want a retractable cable like this? lol

they're retractable, and go click clicky!

I don't know what half your stuff and looks like, or even what it looks like atm! lol

I'm stuffed or ideas, esp since we can't damage your dash. The suction pad idea is probably best, since it won't damage your interior, and you can still rip it out to change tracks n stuff. Other than that, I think what u have now is probably good enuf.

keke, i can't think i needs sleepsy :doubt:

ooh i already had one of these. For iPods as well. Just that all it did was charge. No signal transfer.
And the retractable bit was always stuffing up

So I got a refund and went the belkin

I noticed Apple has a cupholder mount thingy. That'd be what I'd use if it was me.

Nah, you'd be surprised how much magnetism you'd need to affect a HDD.

HDDs are built into a metal case, that case acts as a Faraday Cage for magnetic force
and inside the cage is unaffected. You'd need several hundred thousand gauss to do
any damage to your data.... ie you could put a few neo magnets on top any HDD
and it still won't do any damage.

iPods are pretty heavy though... they'll probably fall off the phoney magnet at a bump.

Don't know if this will help, but the newer Magnas have no ashtray or ciggy lighter, just a compartment with a push-click-fold down door.

I got one for about $60 for a project I'm doing.... :shifty:

hmmm interesting, I love the fold out cupholders on the newer calais....

Any pics of these compartments?
