Righto, couldnt find anything on this...
Wanna lower mine a tad...im thinkin on Kings lows...maybe combo. This is almost purely for looks...and a bit of safety i spose.
1st: My major concern atm is how far the ride comfort wil degrade. I dont want to be feelin everything...i like a bit of softness to my ride. If i drop it, am i gonna lose that ride, or will it get betta?
2nd: I think i know this bit...but mines done 135K now, so i think im gonna replace shocks too...good yes?
3rd: The car currently makes some rather annoying knocks when it hits bumps in the road. Its comin from the rear, and its either a) the board over the spare in the boot b) the spoiler/boot arent quite secure c) something else...what are bump stops?
cant think of any other concerns atm...anyone help?
Cheers
Edit: AND, how easy, wots involved in doing this myself, keepin in mind im a lamer mechanically

ok, when i lowered my car from stock to king lows, i didnt put new shocks in (should have) but did have cash at the time. i didnt notice hardly any change in the actual ride as in feeling bumps and stuff but i noticed it sat alot nicer on the road and cornering was slightly better. speed bumps n stuff i needed to slow down a bit more for but thats about it.
replace the shocks if u can, it will only make things nicer and smoother and safer in the long run.
check the spare wheel, make sure its down tightly we get alot of cars come in at work saying the same thing and its cos the bolt holding the spare down isnt tight and its moving around.
bumpstops are whats at the top and bottom of the spring, when there is little or no spring coils (commo bogans no this too well with their chopped) it hits the rubber bumpstops.

Exactly what 213374U said.
I put Whiteline superlows in the ride was still really nice.
Even put 18's on, and everyone said that the ride was gonna be completely horrible but they were wrong, the car handled better on the road and the ride was still really nice :D

By lowering the car you are reducing the amount of available suspension travel. Might not be that noticable under most conditions but when you hit big bumps etc the suspension will hit the bump stops earlier. If the replacement springs are the same free length as the original they must be a softer rate to get the car to sit lower. If they are a shorter free length then they might be a higher rate which means the suspension will be stiffer.

i had my lowered with super low and low combo, my ride is fairly harsh, because i travel through roads with tram tracks everyday, near hawthron and burke rd, since you are in Vic, you will know what i mean, and i notice every bumps on the road. i also notice alot of little shocks and vibrations inside the cabin during everyday driving. however, on a road with good road surface, it's great, i am prepared to suffer a bit of bumps for those good roads with nice corners.
good and bad i suspose......
and it doesnt scrap over many things, just a few everynow and then........

The bumpstop rubbers in the front of the magna are the rubber/foam bits that should be on the strut shaft and half under a rubber boot.(in the center of the spring coil) The bumpstops will get worn down or can break and fall off. It is a damn good idea to replace them when new struts or springs are fitted. (about $30 each with a new boot)
Come for a ride in my car. I feel EVERYTHING!!!!!!! lol lol

alrighty, got a quote from a local bloke here, says $980 for replacement KYB shocks, kings supers on the front and lows on the rear, wheel alignment, and all labour
remembering i am in sticksville (mildura), and i know it may all depend on diff things, but does that sound alright? for eg. if i were to get parts thru Anthony, im lookin at lmost 700, so 280 for labour?
Cheers

Thats the exact same setup I have (and a few other members too). The ride is still smooth, but you can definately feel the road more. If you do hit a bump or driving down a pretty average road you will definately feel it. You loose the "boat" feel of the car, which is great on cornering, but not so great over potholes (not that you should be hitting them anyway).
This setup is quite stiff but I'm sure you will grow accustomed to it.

got another quote today same price but with Lovells springs...
they reckon lovells give better ride (something i would like)
anyone know this for a fact, and anyone know if there is a height-drop difference between kings and lovells

I think you'll find Kings and Lovell similar quality. Last I heard both used cheaper steel from China. There are better brands but unfortunately you're limited to those who support Magna's.
Lowered cars with stiffer springs naturally feel the bumps more but if you take a few pounds out of your tires, it won't feel so bad. I've been driving on 32 lately and it's a nice ride. I've just put it back to 38 to see how economy has been affected.

If you want handling without sacrificing ride quality, go a front and rear swaybar - they give better results than the springs anyways... And with springs - very nice :)

it means more comfort, from chicks that is they will dig your car so much more appart from my misses that likes to bag my car out as i angle it over every speed hump waiting for that scraping sound, but lower it dude itll look heaps better

I'm def gonna do it...but now i just need to work out wether to go the lovells or kings. Its only 50 bucks extra, so ima thinkin goin the lovells...will depend if there is much variance in dropheight

One more...
Called local pedders today...they quoted me $750 for springs, shocks, wheel align and fitted...i thort that was pretty good compared to other quotes i had of 980 for kigns/lovells.
SO, i had a look on here, and it was a mixed bag with people likeing them and disliking them.
He said he will only go the 45 mm at rear and 30 at front....im worried it wont be dropped enough.
Therefore, was wondering if anyone who has either lovells (superlows F, lows R) and the aforementioned Pedders setup, and has a side on pic they could email me...Sean.Mooney@bigpond.com that'd be awesome, cos i really need to see what diff there willl be with height drop. DW bout kings...the setup i would be getting of them is identical of Misty's, and im using her pics as a guide for them.
Cheers all

I got Fulcrum springs and Monroe Sensatrac shocks. It is harsh!! Maybe better quality shocks would've made a diff (KYB). Can't figure out how Pornstar gets a nice ride with 18's and low suspension.
You really should get a camber kits as well. Once the car is lowered, it rearranges the suspension geometry, and there's not enough camber adjustment.
Get a rear swaybar at the same time ($200ish?) it will really help the handling.
Do you know L31GH? His Sports has a rear s/b as standard, so check it out, he's in Mildura. (Say G'day to him for me.) :D
BTW, got Tyrepower in Swan Hill to do mine, they did a good job. The boss there (Troy)worked at Mitsu, so he knew his stuff with Magnas.

sorry to keep reviving this one...but thats what us ill-mechanically minded noobs do hey
I spoke to the pedders bloke today, and he mentioned they may have to put a camber kit on if its too far out...in one ear out the other.
What will it do, and is it worth the extra 120-160 for it?
Cheers

My TF has Pedders low springs with the factory shocks. It handles spot on even without a rear sway bar and rides really well. Not exactly like a standard ride height Magna but the compromise is excellent. Depending on how good your standard shocks are maybe you could just change the springs and see how you go. If that works well then i would just leave it and pocket the change! Just make sure that if you do that then you buy springs that remain captive on the shock when the suspension is at maximum extended travel, we cant have them falling out now, can we? :D
