Hey guys
i just wanted to ask you guys a question i took my car to tyre fact today in vic to get a puncture repaired and wheel alignment ($53). After leaving there i had spent $355.00. When the tire guy checked my front wheels he showed me that the front inside tread was totally gone there was no more tread on the inner side of the rim. What could have caused this??? is it cause the alignment was out or because the car is lowered on kings lows? has anyone else experienced this problem.

I just got mine lowered today from pedders (midland, WA), great job
any way the wheel alignment showed that the camber was off the scale with the new springs (i watched them install it through the 3 hours) the had to install a camber adjustment bolts to correct the alignment plus adjust the rear toe as this was affected. cost me an extra $100 though to get this done.
Look im not a suspension mechanic, but i know what they did was nessesary to save me money on tyres in future, and this also corrected a bad torque steer affect (pulling to the left) on heavy accleration.
By the way it was lowered on pedders sports lows (king equiv, 40mm lower all round)
looks so much better, and handles heaps better
Anyway thats my 5c

Gazza you might want to get your rears checked again as i used to run pedders allround and found that even with the constant (1-2month) alignment it was still wearing the rear insides out. Found that once i got a shim kit from whiteline ( are others) there was no more wear even after replacing the springs for kings and the shocks for some good jap KYB jobs. Bu ti also put in an Anti-lift kit on the front so it also changes the castor and gives me better feel on the road.

your problem is caused by lowering without fitting a camber adjusting bolt kit. This is a common problem When lowering Mcpherson strut suspension. because there is only one control arm at the bottom and the strut at about 30 degs when the suspension extends it rolls the tyres under the car "\|" (load on outside of tread) when the suspension is compressed it points the bottom of the tyres out "/|"load on inside of tread.
When a car is lowered and the wheel alignment is not corrected then it will have excess positive camber and the tyre wear problems you have are the result.

Same tyres or new ones?
Once your tyres wear more on one edge, they'll never magically
wear flat again even after you've fixed your camber back to spec.
You'll only see the effect with a new pair of rubber.

would there be tyre wear if i had 15's or 16's rims with king lows ?

Cheers for the heads up madmik
Im going to keep an eye on how it handles, i checked all the tyres when there off, and the wear was even on all 4 (60%) The guys told me to bring it in later next week to have it looked at again, and they'll check the alignment again for me to make sure everything is ok.
benau - This is basically what the guys there explained to me - they have done a couple magnas now and found that they have had to add the camber bolt kit, they told me this before hand and advised me that it may cost me extra if i need it, so there was no surprises.

Pedders Sports Ryder, lowest legal (NSW), 40mm (?). Rotate tyres every 5000 km. 235 rubber. No odd wear at all. No camber or other kits required. Go and figure...
Richard at Pedders Liverpool said mine was the lowest he would install, without having camber problems.

my second gen was lowered more than 40mm, no wear problems, if you get someone who knows how to do a proper allignment you will have little or no problems.
Did you get an allignment when you put the springs in, if not that is your problem with the tyres

I got an alignment after lowering it. but then i also changed the shocks to monroe gts i dont think they did an alignment after that hence the shocking wear on the tyres. But the guys at ttf did an alignment so hopefully it will be ok.
But i also think rotating the tyres every 5000 - 10000 will be good to do as well.
like always thanks for your help
