yo just wonderin how much to expect to pay for tyres to fit 17" wheels?

i want some quality high performance tyres, but i seriously doubt i will be able to afford some...

also this may sound like a really dumb question, but obviously im looking at getting some 17's, but do i have to get some wheels that are a certain width??? i just dont wanna buy something second hand and then find out that they are too wide/skinny to go on my car...

Better be budgeting minimum $200-250 each, as I ain't seen 17" rubber any much less than that.

I sorta lost interest in 17"s after that...

thats cause their poo. :P

if you want high performance at a good price look at brands like falken, federal etc

if you can afford around $240 a tyre i would strongly recommend falken azenis ST115's 225/40ZR17. they are seriously the best tyre i have used, so quiet and smooth but give unbelievable grip in the wet or dry!

you could go for the pirelli p6000 if you want to spend $500 a tyre and get about 17,000 kms out of them. Nice tyres but not worth the money

one thing i do know is that i wont be buying goodyear! my dad had some goodyear eagles (dont know the exact model) low profile tyres on his car, cost him 1800 all up to fit them all.. and they turned out to be the biggest peices of ****. Had stuff all grip and to make matters worse, the tyres actually became "lumpy" and we had to run about 6 (im serious!) weights on the tyres to make em balance properly and even then they where as noisy as hell and bah! never buy goodyear.. their more likely to cost you your life once a year then safe you..

235/45/17's Yokahama C-Drives - $269 each. Excellent tyres but deffo not your 'budget brand'

Yeah I've got the Yokie C-Drives on my car, albeit just the standard sports wheels, but there excellent, so much grip avaliable from them in all situations

i've used the Kumho Ecsta's when i had 17's..... not the worst tyre in the world, but not the best either. i think its most suited to everyday driving/commuting. if you ever do some 'spirited' driving then i dont think they're for you. if i remember correctly, they were $160 per tyre.

I've also used Federal's and i rate them slightly higher than the Kumho's but i find that in the wet, they tend to slip a little more.

atm i'm using Hankook Ventus K104, and i am really impressed with them!! (but maybe cos they're 8.5" wide....) :D

I also use the Hankook Ventus K104Sport which i find really good. Much better than my previous pirelli P6000's, in the wet especially. So far i'm also getting much better wear than the pirelli's. I've got 225/50/R17 and they were $250ea.

umm..

yeah anyway i was anticipating around a thousand for the lot.. some of you guys have pointed out ways of getting cheaper which is good

Colgate - my gf has some GT radials champiro low profile tyres on her car, are these the ones you are talking about for 165?? they seem like ok tyres.. although i have only ever known her car to have those tyres on it, so no real point of comparison, but they dont seem to be especailly grippy through the mountain runs, but they seem at least as good as the bridgestone RE92's im currently running... probably not hard tho

Mine are Nankang 235/40R18's NS-2.... and there is nothing wrong with them so far. Wet or dry, they have good grip. :P

I switched from the Azenis ST115 to the Michelin Pilot Precedas and am really happy with them, $295 for 235/45/R17. Dry grip is a fraction less than the ST115 but wet grip is better. Tyre wear is also better and they wear more uniform too. Directional change stability is the same.

I was going to go for the Continental Contisport Contact2 but was advised they aren't that good for larger cars, and are designed more for small sedans or coupes/hatches; they were around $315 but I have heard only good things about them.

As for the K104s, I have only heard good things about them, they do a good job as a medium level performance tyre and the tread looks pretty mean :D

Also check out the Bridgestone Potenza S03s that are an awesome tyre and very good for large cars, that's why we fit them to HSVs etc and even Statesmans and they do well. In 235 size they are around $300.

dude, do yourself a favour and buy a tyre that suits your driving style. and look around. But a good proformance tyre will cost anywhere between $190-$319 pending where you shop and who you know.

7.5 with a 235 tyre on its mine

some have 7 to 8.5 inch..

lower the profile the wider the tyre to make up for ya load rating. dont forget bout that.

30,000 before they are stuffed!! i cant believe what I am reading in some of these posts... I am overdue for new rubber now, but my blooming tyres have lasted me nearly 3 years and well over 50,000 kms. Sure they are needing replacing now but sheesh.... $1000 in just over a year on rubber is a bit steep. (I know, maybe not to some)

I just got 4 x Good Year Eagles 235/45/17 GSD3 (NEW PATTERN) for $200 a tyer.
They did a wheel alignment, balanced and fitted them at no cost at beaurepairs.
Total $800, usually $300 just for a tyer. (try and beat this deal) :bowrofl:
I am very happy with them, very smooth and grip better than my previous falkens which just wore out to damn quickly

If you shop around for goodyear tyres make sure you get the GSD3, as the model without it is old stock and you will see them floating around cheap in the trading post and ebay.
