Just an idea:
Put a computer in your car. Add wireless and a small omnidirectional antenna on the car roof (you can get magetic bases now)
Go for a cruise, pump a multicast signal out of MP3 files that each can on a cruise can 'tune into' with their computer and wirless antenna. The whole cruise can be pumping all the same tunes at the same time.
How fcuking awesome would that sound?

passengers with laptops could chat to each other... kinda like the CB's, just harder to listen in on....

Yeah dude, thought of this already. In fact I was thinking more of the lines of video conferencing over 802.11.
I've got half the equipment ready to go, still acquiring the other half.

Why all listen to the same music though? A more interesting application would be to have 802.11g integrated into a Car-PC so that you can go war driving and get free internet access in most busy cafe precincts + CBD.

They just like to know what's going on i guess...
A few people round here work there etc and they dont want anyone spilling the beans on top secret stuff. Like what size cupholders are in the upcoming model lol

Have you ever tried to get multiple computers doing this at the same time? I toyed with a similar idea, however, all the clients stream at a slightly different time with slightly different buffers. You'd be out by anywhere from 100 to 2000ms.
That being said if you could get short range radio transmitter, that'd work better, though quality may not be as great.

wireless fm would be better so it does'nt go funny but you might get introuble for broadcasting.
The passanger in the broadcasting car could have a mic :D
