Hey all,
Went to do an oil change the other day and got a nasty surprise.

Under teh terms and conditions of my 3-year/100 000km used car warrenty I have to get Mitsubishi to service my car every 10 000km. I like to do an intermediate oil and filter change.

I went to do my change on thursday and couldn't get the sump plug undone. It looks as if it had been done up with a rattle gun and the plug was cross threaded in the sump. Now th bolt is not all that easy to put in/take out.

Anyone know what I can do? Can I get it retapped and put a bigger plug in? Get a used sump from a wrecker?

There's a good seal, but I don't like the survival chances long term.

Cheers
Dave

I would be hitting up the workshop that did the last service to replace the sump and plug under warranty.

It is possible to use a sump plug with larger thread and drill and tap a new thread to suit. (should be enuf metal in the nut but you risk leaving metal filings in the motor if you do this sump on.)
or replace the sump with a 2nd hand one.

If you have no luck with the workshop ... buy a new oil pan. Shouldn't cost any more than $60, and you will get a new sump plug and o-ring with it :)

You can try and drill, tap, hellicoil it but you'd have to really clean it out good after due to the swarf created and I see no reason of not doing that.
