Hey pplz, I need your help.

I have searched the whole forum on how to get a piece of cable through the firewall in the 3rd gen, and yes I have found a couple of threads but I'm still at a loss...

Apparently there is a grommet around the middle of the firewall that I can go through? Well I have looked everywhere and I still can't find this damn grommet!

Please can someone post a picture and show me exactly where I can pass my cables through?

Oh and I know there is a grommet behind the passenger kick panel directly behind the side blinkers, but it would mean I would need to remove the quarter panel to fit a 8 gauge cable through which I would like to avoid doing!

when we did my mates car (TF 3.0l).....there is a big rubber boot where all the wires from the ECU come out.......its on the passenger side of the firewall right down the bottom.....u cant miss it......anyway we poked a little hole in the rubber boot and ran the cable through it.....once the cable was fixed we used some silicon just to make sure it was sealed again.

Inside the car u may or may not have to remove a metal plate....depends if u can reach or not to grab the cable and pull it through.

hrmm, i'll have a look again tommorow. The stupid EBD/ABS motor is in the way (its a big block sitting next to the wheel arch near the firewall on the passenger side)

behind the dash passenger side theres a white plastic "nut protector" (the ones cricketers use), unscrew that and you'll see a gommet behind it and you just need to make a small cut and you'll be able to fit your wires through

Actually I've seen this "nut protector" lookalike from the engine bay, pretty much where you described it to be, its not white though, its grey and feels metallic, is this what you are talking about or do you mean its from the inside (cabin) ???

no its from the inside... if you duck your head under you'll see it clearly.. its stuck on by 2 bolts. from the engine bay, you'll need to remove abit of the heat padding and you'll see the rear end of the gommet

Or you could just slice a hole where your steering wheel thing comes in. There's also another big grommet right in the middle of the car, next to the foot rest. u can't miss it. goodluck.

k while its not recommened for obvious reasons (getting caught in the steering) - it is possible to go through the steering column thing. I really didnt want to do this, but i had a sk time going through the other one that sposed to be near the cnetre... when i went to check out the steering column hole - i actually found thats where my car alarm wiring was put through (just a very tiny slit in the rubber surrounding the colum) and fed my wiring through there. . . and down the driver pedal/centre console area. its actually pretty well snugged away from the column, so if you have a sk time trying elsewhere, you could take this option..

I got 0 gauge through... (TF Automatic) Follow the tube that goes from ur auto shifter into the engine bay.

Go through that grommet

Can provide pics, remind me this weekend if you're desperate and I'll get the camera out.

To see it clearly, drop the carpet down on the drivers side that looks at the centre of the firewall from the inside.

FUSE FUSE FUSE! :)

That would be great if you could. I was fine on my TE which was manual but on my AWD there is so much stuff in the way. The grommet that i last used is covered by an ABS unit. Need to get 2 gauge through so its going to be interesting.

I found that 'nut protector' on the right hand side of the passenger footwell, which really is behind the center console. I can't get it off though, one of the nuts holding it is onthe other side and i can't reach it :/ Any suggestions?

Now I can't even take the glovebox off because the screws holding it is so tight.

i had one put through the passenger side from a car audio installer a couple of years ago, and last month wen i went to put another wire through i couldnt get it at all... so i used another rubber thing i seen on the drivers side...

they run my latest wiring through there too on my last mod

the nut on the inner side is pretty hard to take off.... i used a small spanner and took my time to remove mm by mm... but you will get there!!!! just take your time... :D

Well after some struggle I managed to take that plastic 'cup' off and low and behold...a grommet! Got my cables through, I am happy now :)

Also managed to replace the speaker cables for one door so far. Now all I have to do is work out how to put the grommet back into place and then work on the other door :doubt:

I gonna try to run cable to power my amp soon, I've heard alot about not running power too close to RCA. How is "too close" defined? Is there anything else I need to know beforehand?

run your power cables down the driver side and run the RCA down the passenger side.. thats the easiest way to do it...
