View Full Version : High Stall torque convertor
what are the benefits of one of these? i just know that you can stall it up to 3-4k rpm then let go of the brakes for some nice wheelspin - but really, is there any other benefit - like more KW at the wheels?
also, has anyone put one in a gen1 or gen2?

It helps your 0-100kph and 1/4 mile time A LOT. Yes more wheel spin can result but if the traction is there the car will launch a lot harder.

Won't that make it a biitch to drive around the 'burbs. I can't imagine having to rev out to 4 thou before it moves is going to be good. qrtr mile times will improve but I think you will pay a high price in driveability.

As mentioned above...... not ideal for a daily driver - imagine only being able to leave your driveway at 60km/h!!

i thought stall converters just made it that when you have your foot on the brake, and the accelerator flate, it will hold around 3 or 4000 rpm as opposed to around 2000rpm.. but when you arent "stalling it up" it drives just like a normal car, meaning there would be no problems with driving it everyday?? please someone correct me if im wrong

Maybe a high stall torque converter and a stall converter are different. I'm pretty sure a stall converter won't engage the gears under a certain RPM - hence what I was referring to. Perhaps a high stall torque converter behaves much the same as a torque converter but can withstand higher stalling.

dont those hi stall converters actually end up multiplying torque somehow ? hence resulting in quicker quarter mile times.
i dunno really
get one though lol

If you only go 1/4 throttle it will drive much like normal. It will drive fine as you are used to. Then you can either hold the brake and stall up higher or just floor it and it will launch harder. However under minimal power it won't be bad at all.

This is a good read.
