Guys, just need your opinion.

I've modified my air induction by replacing the stock iar induction scoop with a blue 80 mm flexibile tube. The othe end of the tube is in the left hand side of the front spoiler (see pictures).

My questions would be:
- are there any benefits from what i've done?
- considering there is no direct air flow towards the open end of the tube (the end in the front spoiler) is the engine gettine enough air?
- do I now have to retune the engine for the new modification (just retuned it a few days ago when I put unichip in it)
- does it look good?

Your opinions would be highly appreciated.

- YES (but you need to ensure the part where the tube and the box connect, that its sealed tightly)

- YES, because your engine is creating a vacuum and its actually sucking the air in. (hence the need for point no. 1)

- Maybe...... but your stock ecu should be able to handle the change.

- I like it..... no, really i do! maybe red though, or black.

Seeing as you still have the stock air box i think benifets are going to be minimal. Because you dont have the tubing facing direct airflow your going to miss out on some "ram-air" effect but I think you will still be getting enough air not to effect the engine negativly.

Because this will have such a minimum effect on performance i wouldnt bother with a retune.

To get a real benifet you've gotto ditch the stock air box and stick a pod on.

Looks nice!
CAI is for getting more cold air into the filter, so if you dont have more air getting forced into the pipe than stock, then it wont be of any benefit. Is there any opening in spoiler in front of the pipe? If not, the engine will be working harder trying to suck its own air up instead of it being pushed in.
Do you have a close up of how you attached it to you airbox?
Cheers

yeh make sure its all sealed. Im also wary of that ribbed stuff. nice smooth PVC is preferrable. What you have most probably works better than the stock setup, but the end of the pipe needs to get some air flowing directly into it to get the most benefit of your setup. And Im not too familiar with the ralliarts snow plough front bumper so i cant help you there sorry.

WRONG!!!

there is about as much 'ram air' effect as there are straight men on Oxford St!!
look at the positioning of the stock snorkel...... its there so the engine can suck cold air in, not so that cold air can be 'rammed' in.

and there is no need to ditch the air box for the pod (unless you're going to fully seal the pod in a decent enclosure, other wise your CAI setup is as useless as a eunich in a brothel)

:stoopid:

I've already proven that the difference between a factory intake and 90mm PVC down to the bumper was worth 5hp ATW on my car.

I'd be enormously surprised if there was much, if any, that can be picked up just by virtue of using a pod.

Considering there is negligable flow difference between having a panel filter and no filter at all I can't see that a pod will make any difference either.

I think the whole myth that a pod flows better than a panel comes about because when most people swap from a panel to a pod they pull out the factory airbox and factory induction system and chuck a pod straight in front of the MAF sensor. The increase in air flow they are getting is because the factory intake is crap, not because they're using a pod instead of a panel.

Fix the intake, like this guy has done, and you're reducing the difference between pod and panel considerably, IMHO.

i have a tf magna and i have exactly the same pipe as you (just black) i have mesh at the bottom left of my bumper so i stuck mine there, obviously you dont have that but i think there is room to stick it next to your radiator for the air to come through the grill. i cant remember who posted it but someone figured out how to get the pipe going to the grill, pretty sure it was your model of car, just use the search for air induction or sumfin.

and as for the ripples in the pipe, the inside has no ripples it has some stuff in there which makes it all straight inside

If you wanted to go extreme you could sculpt a hole in your front bumper, BMW CSL style to run the intake to. Could be done very neatly. Also black piping looks less aftermarket/ blends in with engine bay better. http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/bmw_m3csl.asp

grill or front bar(the hole for your spotties)? if you mean the front bar i think your talkin about Tim-E

all this talk about pod vs panel, both are good in a sealed box with CAI piped to it. pod is useless just sitting in your engine bay as is a panel in a box with just the snorkle removed and no piping.............
