Hey there,
I bought some second hand 17" VRX rims off a Series 1 or 2 TJ on Saturday and should be getting some 235/45/17 tyres this weekend.
However, I will probably need to lower it and am just wondering what springs would be best. I want to avoid going lower than 2 inchs and I also want to retain decent ride quality ie. as close as possible to what I have now on the stock suspension, off course acknowledging that the low profile treads will stiffen the ride some what.
I have heard Kingy's Lows are good?
Obviously people here have lowered there cars so how is the ride quality compared to stock?
Any advice appreciated
My car is stock as a rock on 15" hubcaps :)

King low's are popular but not the greatest. They're cheap so you get waht you pay for. 235/45R17's won't be legal on the rim. Check your tyre placard to see if you've got a 94 load rating and get some 225/50R17's.

I have King "lows" in my VRX, there is definitely an improvement handling wise. Slightly harder ride than standard, but in a good way, I think.
If funds permit, I would suggest you get new shocks as well. You won't need to get them straight away, but your standard shocks will begin to wear a lot quicker with the lowered springs.

The 17" rims from a VRX are 7" wide. The widest "legal" tyre you can put on a 7" rim is a 225 (This is a Tyre and Rim Association of Australia guideline enforced Australia-wide). If you use the search function you will see this has been talked about many times before)
I too would love to put 235s on my 17" VRX rims, but the guideline is there for a reason and I value my insurance cover! ;)
If you want the closest match to your current rolling diameter, you will need 225/50/17 tyres, that is what comes standard on a VRX.
Make sure you check the load rating on your car, should be either 94 or 95 and buy a tyre that matches or exceeds the rating.

I got them second hand, 4 in near perfect cond ie no kerb gouges, only a couple of very minor scratches, for $470. Came with all centre Mitsubishi caps and the alloy wheel bolts.
No tyres though. They came of the sellers VRX as he replaced his rims with chrome 17's and therefore kept the tyres.
Anyway, I will ring NRMA and check with them before I put them on and/or lower the car too.
Thanks for the advice guys. :D

"but your standard shocks will begin to wear a lot quicker with the lowered springs."
Why?
All you are doing is changing the position of the shock piston in relation to the shock tube. Being lower than std reduces the suspension travel so you might hit the bump stops more. That might cause some damage of an extended period but I can't see how the shock would actually wear more.
