i notice that my car can't seem to keep straight. i have to tug the steering a little more to the right to keep it straight most times. to convince myself i wasn't sensitive, i went to a carpark and positioned the car exactly parallel toa white line on the road and pointing straight ahead with steering in neutral position. then stepped on the gas and true enough, the vehicle veered gently to the left. i know the first thing that comes up is the wheel alignment and tyre pressure theory. but i'm pretty sure it's none of those as i just got my car aligned 3 months ago and i pay constant attn to tyre pressures. anybody had this problem before? a friend told me that it is normal for right-hand drive cars to veer a little bit to the left due to the way the roads are constructed. never heard of that before but yea, my car can't keep straight for even 100m going at 20-30km/h :( . freakin gay of a car...

Have all tyres been rotated properly? were they all bought brand new at the same time? take it into a tyre place and it may be worth getting your car rebalanced. otherwise......i aint got no more ideas

I hear you dude, my car was doing exactly the same thing, how freaky is dis, anyway no one could pick up what the problem was, until I took the car in for yet another tyre rotation and balance, it was taking them forever and a day, I was wondering what the problem was, and sure enough they come out and get me, and they say have you noticed the car pulling to the left, I say yes, what is causing it, they say I must have had the car towed recently, yes this is true, well they have attached one of the chains to this rear bar here and well it is slightly bent, therefore the reason why the car is pulling to the left, ahha, thankyou so much.
haha mine does the same.. but i though it as being normal.. Every other car ive driven has had chronic veering to the left :P
Datsun 77
Vw 62
Falcon 85
Hiace 78
corolla 82
MAGNA 98!!! haha
im used to it but in a new car i still rekon it shouldnt happen :P
and as for getting your car towed.. thats wrong eh!!!! they should pay for the repair work!

and what did you do to fix it? the mechanics couldn't find the problem?
i don't think my car was ever towed, certainly not in my ownership. i'm gonna bring it to mitsu tomorrow and see how it goes. but i reckon they'll prob first recommend wheel alignment, rotation and balancing. i doubt that is the problem though...

It actually needed the bar replaced, because the chain pulled it back and bent it ever so slightly the bar now is shorter therefore pulling the car to the left and making the tyre on that side wear faster then the others.
Oh and by the way there was enough play in it to fix it the first time, but the second time no-way, it had to be replaced.
My thought is that cars have to be transported whether it be second hand or new, the same thing could easily happen as it did to me, you might not notice it at first then it creeps in slowly, I mean if you looked under there you would'nt notice it, but when someone points it out directly and puts a straight edge on it to compare to the other side well then yeah you can see it, so get your car put up on a hoist by someone who knows what there doing and have them go over it three times to be sure.

European cars (and Aussie) are actually designed with a slight 'veer-to-the-left'. This is becuase when driving on the left hand side, if you were to fall asleep you wouldn't drift into oncoming traffic.
It's usually only very minor and hard to pickup unless you drive for quite a while with hands off the wheel. I find just resting my left knee on the bottom of the wheel is enough pressure to stop it when I wanna have a coke or something ;)
(As you might have guessed, in the US, they drift to the right)

It also has a lot to do with our roads not being flat. Most roads are angled downwards towards the gutter so that water does not build up in the centre of the road (so it will run into the drains).
