Alright, had a few probs starting my car in the last couple of days...
I had it up on stands while I was changing the CV boots for 1 1/2 days, and went to start it when all finished, and nothing. Not even the clicking sound... Jump started it and it was all good. Drove around for abour 45 mins to charge what I thought was just a flat battery cos I left a door open or something... :tantrum:
Then this morning, tried to start it to go to uni, and same again, not even clicking. Let key go, tried agian, and started good as gold...
Then, after uni, went out at about 6 just to make sure it started while there was someone I know that could give me a jump, and started first go...15 mins later, turned key, and nothing. Let key go, tried again, and away she went.... WTF????? :poke:
Any ideas...?

Could be a worn key, if you have another key try that, or if not have a look at the blank of the key and check wether the cut part looks worn(smooth). Otherwise sounds like the ignition barrel

Lol!
While driving it's fine, just occasionally starting. That's what's confusing me. And only occasionally. I would have thought if the battery terminals were dirty (Dark and cold outside now....It can wait till the morning), it would have trouble starting all the time.

sounds like a bad contact somewhere, you say you don't even hear the starter solenoid clicking, I would check the wiring to the started solenoid from the ignition, the ignition switch and the wiring back to the battery including the battery terminals.
Also check the starter motor bolts, the connections for the main cable between the battery and the starter and the battery and engine earth cable.
When it won't start do the dash lights go dim when you are turning the key to start?
it takes me about 1.5 hrs to do all 4 cv boots (in a mates workshop with the right tools  )

hehe 1 1/2 days to do cv boots.
sorry man. hehe.
Anyway. benau hit it on the head. I'd also be inclined to say connections to the starter solenoid, battery terminals (as thats one of the connections directly to the starter - as said before), or the starter solenoid itself may be on the way out.
If you get stuck somewhere, and the car doesnt crank, get someone to hold the key in the start position, and get under the bonnet and with a cold chisel and give the starter solenoid itself a tap. She'll fire up like a dream.

lol
1 1/2 days cos I could only see the outer boot was stuffed, so I bought an outer, had the shaft out, and realised that there was a fair bit of grease around the inner too, so I thought I better change that one too... and as usual, no one had an inner boot, had to wait for them to order one in....
Then didn't finish uni till 4 the next day... All up though, probably 2 hours.... And it's only the second time i've done boots....
But I will check the solenoid and connections tomorrow, cheers guys!

I had a problem like this but it only happened once when installing my stereo. The fuse blew for the headlights and the car wouldnt start. Left it 15min and it was good as new.
Just today I was playing around with my battery terminals and now the car wont start. Will try cleaning them. But now I am just waiting to see if I have the same luck as before :P
*edit*
Cleaned them and all is now good.

What did you use to clean them?
Just mechanical cleaning?
Poured boiling hot water over them?
I bought some CRC spraycan from Repco some mths ago... tried it on another car but that's started sulphating up too, so I'm not all sure if the spray is worth anything.

Mine has been doing that lately.
I got heaps angry with the car not starting so i threw the keys at the ground, i tried again and the car started.
Im pretty sure the problem is with the key, coz i had it all looked at and nothing was unusual.

Maybe your immobilizer is playing up. It's reader is in your ignition barrel i'm told. Take it to a dealer for repair.

There is a known issue with the ignition barrel. CBF searching but it's been posted before. :)

hi there,
sounds like the same problem i had with my car. where you place the key in the ignition their is any airel that attaches the ecu from the ignition block two wires green and red attached by a connecter. by word by Mitsubishi the connecter with the two pins after time heats up and come apart, just a little gap which is cause by the power through the ignition when you start the car over. to fixs the problem all you need to do is the remove the connect one wire at a time due to on the other side of the green and red wire their is the black wire, if wires are not connected probably like before with the connect car will not start.
that will fix your problem with the car not starting.

Could be what he said or the battery it self. Get a test done on it.
