Hey guys,
I'm looking at buying a 3rd gen soon, going to check out some car yards on saturday.
Anyway just wondering how much each model is going for these days, what i should heckle the dealer down to hehe.
Is there much difference between a 3L and 3.5L to 100km/h? as i'm not sure whether to buy a TF or a TH/TJ (if i bought a TF i'd mod the front and back to get a TJ ;)).
What are some of the problems i should look out for?
Any help would be great, thanks!

If you want a TJ, just buy a TJ. The cost of putting a new nose/bonnet on... would be more than the premium a TJ would ask. Early TJs are dropping towards $10k now.
One thing someone told me early on was... Mitsu did a lot of work refining the engine. A later car even in the same series always seems to drive smoother & sweeter than its older brother, even after you adjust for the lesser mileage/age.
So buy the best & latest car you can afford.

Hey TR-Envy also a good place to look is the auctions eg. www.fowles.com.au or pickles they usually have some governement magnas or just normal ones.
My parents picked up a TJ03 Series 2 sedan for $12,500 with 92,000kms and the car is very good but u can find cheaper as the one we got was still very new.
Ill be prob looking for a new car for my self and maybe sell my old TF or give it to my sister, so i will be looking in the auctions to find a good car, but dealers arent bad either.
The ones in morrabin on warrigal rd are pretty good and usually have some magnas, and even mitsubishi in dandenong ive seen some well priced cars there and the dealers around that area.

TR-Envy the main things to look at are make sure they dont try and sell u a 3L as a 3.5L as the dealers in dandenong and all the others have no idea what engines are in the magna, also if getting auto make sure they dont shift like a pig with big clunks.
Also my moms car is still under warranty which is awesome and when we got ours they had another 10 or so TJ2 there all around the 12K mark up to about $13,850 with less ks.
Also make sure the log book is there or up to date. Also i like to have the engine on and switch the AC on and listen if there is a clunk or some extra noise from it cause u dont want more probs further on, also take a look at the oil make sure its not black.
Thats all i can think of now. any more questions u can pm me or chat on msn.

My Old man got one of the first TJ's when they came out for work in 2000, and although they were very good, i brought a second hand late 2001 advance, and the build quality, and averall feel of the car was heaps better. check the tranny oil to make sure it is "blood red", and not gone all cleary/blacky color like i found my tranny. auto should shift smoothly yet quickly and should not jump between shifts
Just make sure its been serviced properly, check the paint VERY carefully for inconsistancys - should be all the same with not patchy bits - you should know, just all the basic second hand car buying bits and pieces.
Personal recomendation -TJ II with under 60k on clock
Anyway happy hunting

Also, you might find better deals in private sales. People would agree with that. Good luck

There is a 99 TH Exec with 40K on the clock for sale through a dealer in todays express advocate (central coast paper) for $17K!
Not a typo either because it appears that the ad draws your attention to the k's as a way of justifying the price.
Therefore my car must be worth about $19K!
