View Full Version : Couple questions about a Cannon exhaust

OK, im not really looking for power, i just want my car to sound fat and loud! ive been doin some searching and narrowed it down...the cannon is the shiz,
How much am i looking at for one of these?
Where on the Gold Coast can i purchase one? autobarn?
Is the a DYI job? easy at all? If not how much to fit one?
Would it be ok on my stock 93 TR? or would i need to upgrade the entire exhaust system?

Cannon exhausts come as just the muffler, you'll need to take it and your car to an exhaust place to weld it on. Costs about $50 to do.
Cannon exhausts are pretty cheap, look around someone will be selling a second hand one somewhere for about $60 or less. Or new ones can reach up to $100 ish.
All depends if you like the cannon look, theyr usually very loud. But some people like that, so its all in taste.

Hmm k thanks. But when i come to selling the car, i would like to take it off, back to the place that would weld it on i guess? I doubt an old granny looking for a magna would want a loud cannon.

If you have access to a TIG welder and know how to use it you're set. I would make a flange for the cannon and bolt it up to your pipe. Then if you want to sell the car but keep the muffler you can just unbolt it.

i got a "supercat" cannon on my TS, 6inch barrel with a 4 inch tip and it sounds VERY loud and i only have a 4cyl. i would not say it sounds nice, just loud. so if thats what your after go for it.
Can you put in extra resonaters n stuff in so they don't sound so farty and loud, without the pop pop? I love the look of cannons

can a exhust alone give you that more bassy roaring sound insted of the shallow "popping" sound, if you know wat i mean

I HATE cannons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Living between the 2 major arteriel roads in brisbane, it's a REALLY pain when you have these little gits with their broken down cars with a straight through cannon exhaust, screaming up and down the freeway/gateway at all hours of the morning(10pm - 4am). Always 2 of them, and always about 800db @1mW/1mm. Uber uber UBER annoying!
Get one if ya want bro... just don't be driving it past my door every day!!!! They sound terrible on 4 cyls in my opinion anyway.

I have one, its actually a genie, it cost me $150 intalled from a real good cheap place in SA..
i personnaly love it its big enough for me to pt my fist down with out touching the sides, and it sounds good, real deep still with sputter on decrease in revvs

Ant0ne, why on earth would you place loudness over power for an exhaust upgrade? The main point of replacing a stock muffler (or doing a cat back system) is to gain power.
Why exactly do you want a generic cannon as opposed to a muffler that has been specially designed for the magna? I take it that you are pretty keen on getting a cannon and I'd suggest that if you want loudness, have a look at Magnaflow and Xforce mufflers before handing over your cash for a cannon. Keep in mind that cops love cars with cannons too.
You can simply replace the rear muffler if you want, or you can get a full cat back system done. Depends on how much money you are prepared to spend.
Remember that if you have a 4 pot TR and yuo make your exhaust too big you will actually LOSE power (search if you don't believe me).
DONT get a plain jane cannon...they're noisy as hell.
with KB on this one tho if u want a nice system dont go with a cannon (if u do get somehting small and good quality) otherwise u'll sound like every other civic and lancer out there, loud n farty!

Your obviously after that cannon rumble.. They arent loud All the time, only when the revs hit around 2500-3000 the deeper rumble kicks in. After that it'll quiet off.
Nice sounds when you start the engine, idle, and subtle rumble when at cruising speeds.
I can tell what kinda feel your after, and you'll only get it with the cannons..
Go for it man

I've never heard a cannon that does that. They're noisy, droney and in your face all the time. Every car I've been in with a cannon has awful drone in the cabin. Thats with resonators too.
It all depends what you're willing to put up with. There's only one way to find out, and thats to do it. Not a hard thing to change around if you have to.

i think if u want the right sound just do a cat back change , up the size of the pipe , put in a hot dog & a nice rear muffler and tip cost about $800.00 , my 2 cents

OMG good work guys, especially alex. thanks! umm looks like xforce seem to be the shiz aswell, so im kinda tossin up between xforce and cannon. But yeah theres only one true way to find out how these cannons go off.
Gerrad, if what u said is true... ill go for a cannon. I want to be able to drive slow some times and not draw so much attention (poolice etc), but also want it loud as hell when its time to show off heheh.
Those xforce mufflers look dam sexy, pricy i would presume?

I used to like cannons, that was until i saw them on every little ****box mazda 323, hyundai excel etc. They all think their car is ultra fast cuz they have a cannon, and they are LOUD, no matter what rpm, and if you get pulled over by the cops they'll see the cannon and make sure it's not too loud (which it will be). My advice is to go and buy a generic straight through muffler, cost you about $110 installed plus an exhaust tip. It wont be loud loud, but you'll feel a much deeper tone which sounds so much better.

$250 delivered for mine, talk to anthony about them. their reasonably priced considering the quality of the product, i'm yet to fit mine but i've only heard good things about them.

I wouldn't buy a cannon if i were you. A Lukey sports muffler with twin tips its the way to go. It cost me $130 fitted and it sounds heaps better. It also gives you more high end power and torque.

PT01 and LP02 are both about $250 delivered.
Magnaflow 14803 is $390 delivered. 14827 should be similar.
$250 delivered for the PT01? From Anthony?

i dont have the money, i can only afford a cannon atm. but seems cannons are not the way to go, so i will try and save....its gonna be hard but might take me a couple of weeks to save :(

Nothing wrong with saving up! I personally would save up as much as I could and go for an xforce/magnaflow/lukey system (the last of which I have) instead of a generic drainpipe.
I only wish I'd done a 2.5" cat back system with an Xforce LP02/PT01. Would have shat all over the muffler I have now.
Anyhoo, the real deal comes down to what you want and if a cannon is all you can afford then I suppose a cannon you shall have. Just don't be surprised when the cops pull you over and say "we heard you coming from 3 streets away, it's too loud my good man - here's a nice little yellow sticker for your collection RICER BOY!"
Eh, not a fan of cannons myself. Sorry for being so biased.
Oh, and another thing, if your car is compo insured you might want to check with thems insurance people before doing any mods. You'd be surprised as to how many insurance companis only alow 1 modification under a certain age bracket.

I got a supercat too, on my TR 4 cylinder. I hung it out sideways and angled it up made it look drift style. Sounds ok when ya throw it into 2nd gear or fly in reverse, has the pop pop then but most of the time it makes a pretty annoying sound.

Monga.. a "cannon" is an actual muffler, its not just an extension.. unless u wanted it to be and had room.. but that would be kinda stupid (no offence). A canon is the actual muffler, and the chrome extension on the end, is how they come... and a 5inch tip? Wouldnt that be a tad rediculous.. but each to their own I guess....
GoTRICE
11-05-2005, 07:53 AM
i have a 5 inch cannon (similar to those you see on many skylines) and it sounds quite meaty, especially at low rpm (f-ing awesome at low rpm), i do have the v6 though...
up high it sounds a bit dodge but i'm having a problem with top end power so that might factor too, so until i get that sorted....
oh and it looks the goods to, suits the fat lip of the verada bumper.

HE HE HE :P I reakon the canons with the oval tip look a heel of a lot better than the round tips, fills the cutout a lot better. But that's just me, everyone's got their own opinion.
i prefer the twin exhaust tip better, unfortunately wen my bro replaced the exhaust he got a single tip :doubt: still sounds good tho (hmm sports exhaust)

well i finally bought a cannon today cost about $100 from autobarn, and gunna get it fitted sometime this week.
The guy at autobarn said by just replaceing the stock muffller there wont be any difference in sound, he said it will just burble. Unless he said i replace some twin pipe which is some part of the exhaust...cant remember exactly what is was called, but apparently the magnas have 2 pipes coming from the front of the car.. and if i just put a single pipe in there it would make a huge difference in sound.
sounds like i should check under my car then.. i'll do it during the weekend, tell yaz bout it later

I think the twin pipes are under the engine, there covered with some type of metal rope or something like that. Check just behind the radiator underneath the car. I never changed mine I just shoved the canon where the old rear muffler used to be the sound changed but it prob could be louder if I changed the front pipes. I think it would be a hard job tho, if ya did it urself.

well it should make alot of sound, cause our magnas only have One muffler. theres no middle or front one like commodores or fords have. So if u replace the Only muffler on the car with a cannon, its gonna make a huge diff in sound level.
i dun think the autobarn dude knew this

thats just 2 pipes that are connected to the engine, they join into 1 pipe a bit further down. and yea we only have one muffler, and a cat at the front (near the twin pipe section).
remove the muffler, and ull have nothing to reduce the exhaust noise.
ive seen and heard cannons on falcons and commodores, and it gets that burbled noise ur talkin about. theyve got 2 or 3 smaller mufflers, cause One big one doest fit on the rear cause of the diff.
but other cars like hondas and magnas only have the one muffler. so a cannon is really noisy.
i know cause my cannon is overly noisy

coz the inside is dual layered and its gets filled with cr@p from the emissions causing less space in the inside of the zorst so theres less of a rumble sound.
i h8 2 say it m8 but thats not much of a canon, whys it so small? needs to stick out more and be on an angle, doesnt look quite rite IMO.

has anybody heard the rpw lukey mufflers?
ive got massive twin tip cannons on my 2003 magna atm, but coz i dont have a space cut out of the rear bar for the exhaust they sit below the rear bar, and i dunno what i think about them.
my cars at the smash repairs for the next week but when i get it back i can get some photos to put up. been waiting for the dents to be taken out before i get photos anyway.
