For small marks and stains from bird crap, skuffs and what not I use cut and polish.
If u have a dark coloured car, like me, i find that most cut and polishes absoloutly *** up your paintwork, coz they're too rough :(

try just a polish then, cream polish with no cutting compound. A cut shuoldn't stuff your paint tho  how did it make it look?

the old stuff might have hardened. scratches will be there for sure anyway, big swirly ones. short of a VERY good polish and workmanship u cant get away from them.

I've found Meguiar's products give amazing results. I have a Sable colour TH (nearly black) and the depth of gloss and swirl free finish is outstanding. Meguiar's make many different grades of polish - which one you would need depends on how deep the marks are. Meguiar's Fine Cut or Medium Cut polish used with a form pad on a drill would probably work best - followed by Deep Crystal Polish than a wax. It all depends on how fussy you are. This may sound expensive/time consuming but you could use these products on the entire car and be blown away by the results.
I agree with eek cheap cut and polish products will stuff your paintwork. They remove scratches by scouring the paint - large marks will disappear - to be replaced by fine scratches which are particularly noticable when the sun hits them.

A few suggestions:
Meguiar's ScratchX (most popular, easiest to find)
Mothers Scratch Remover
Autoglym Paint Renovator
ScratchX is best for spot application by hand. Try that first (read the instructions).
If that doesn't work, you can try Greg's suggestion but for a drill, you really should practise on something else first.

I also heard recently by a friend that Meguiar's ScratchX is suppose to be good. Might give it a try. Depending on how expensive it is. ;)

Get some 2000 grit wet rub sand paper. Rub over the spot where the bird **** is and the paint where you rubbed will fade a bit.
Then get some cutting compount of some description, a rag and some water and rub until it comes back up like new (or buy a buff). If it doesn't your going to have to spray that panel.
If you're in SA I'd have a go at it for you :doubt:

Just used that NXT Generation Wax for the first time two weeks ago on my dark coloured car - very very impressive. Easy to apply, easy to remove unlike normal wax. Meguiar's have excelled again.
