ok im really getting sick of the pos right now my main issue is the engine thud i really ****s me off i had the front and rear engine mounts replaced around 4months ago and it still feels like they where b4 all broken also the gen1s have a prob with sticky accelator cables so it doesnt help the thud any more what else could it be?? it just feels like the motors running really tight also makes it difficult to change gears arrr

When is it thudding?
Are the side mounts OK? (the one on the transaxle and the front of the engine)
I have a thud at takeoff caused by the transaxle. Took me a while to track it down, but the old using a screwdriver as a stephescope worked. There is just a heap of play in the differential (in addition to no syncros on 2nd and 3rd :bowrofl: )

thuds when u take off, gear changes, when u depress the throttal and press the throttal every bloody time
and yes the side mounts are fine
im thinkin it might be the trans i was planin on changing the fluid in a week ill see how that goes

My thud is from the box (as I said), the other thing to think about is maybe front suspension bushes.

have the tranny fluid changed and do the filter while your there. shuold help alot. it might have a hesitation when you accel a little, but its unlikely

yeah its lIKE THE later models, its internal but worth changing

Yours is a manual right? then you dont have a trans filter. The autos have an internal one.

The exact same thing happens in my car, IE/ If I unload and then load the engine (tap on the accellerator) it will violently thud (like a mounts stuffed).. I replaced a stuffed mount and it seemed to make it a LITTLE better, but all the symptoms are still there. I've adjusted my dashpot (carby), which made driving it a little easier/smoother, just because it's not losing revs as quickly.
What should I be looking for? Could it be the diff? :(
my money is on diff, because when you take your foot off the accel then the wheels are pushing the gearbox and engine forward, then you accel you are pushing the wheels with the gearbox.
Either diff or something transaxle.

What's a diff worth?

just lately ive been thinking the same thing only prob is the thud(creaking in the morns) comes from the passangers side
also i forgot to mention it also depends on the rpm tends to thud more at lower rpm then higher as u can slowly left ur foot off at high rpm and its alot smoother

Same thing happens on mine.. Has yours got EFI or is it Carb?
I guess the only way to see if it's definately a mount is to take the bonnet off and do a few laps around the block? Are there any other tricks that don't involve taking the mounts out for inspection?

mines efi but it shouldnt really matter....
you can inspect the mounts just by looking at them its very hard to see the front one tho but arr i only replaced the front and rear not that long ago and you cant really move the motor much when its off i hope its not the g/box
hmmm i had an idea how you could test to see if its the g/box diff...chock the back wheels up and lay the front wheels in a flooded drain or something and..spin the wheels and hit the pedel and see if it does it the reason why i say do this is there wont be as much pressure on the g/box/diff hence why the wheels will spin

put the handbreak on
or u could jack the front up
then put it on stands
and yeah
safer than ure idea

Diffs are fairly easy to check. Jack the front up, put it on stands, put it in gear and see how much slack is in it (just turn the wheel till it starts to grab). If there is a fair bit of movement then your diff is worn.
If it is coming from the passenger side, I would say it is a suspension bush.
