Pretty big differences there - on similar engines. Must be the high quality Australian workmanship? Or fuel? Or back-presssure (hehe, ok that was a bad joke, but I just love this "back-pressure" issue)

What happened between the two TE50's must be a rather unhappy car to drop 80kw. One of the kevs must be happy.

We've got plenty of Magna's lying around that can embarrass a lot of boys there

Somehow I doubt that EzBoy.

Don't forget they are just 1) Power figures, 2) We don't know what has been done to them

Anyway I'm waiting for that dyno day to happen.....

Ok, how about: We've got a couple of Magnas lying around that can embarrass a few of the boys. ;)

We've got weight advantages and similar outputs. Remember the "V8 Killer" ads for the VRX or was it the Ralliart they were plugging??

Well lets make it a fair fight. Heaps of magnas on here would beat all the cars listed in stock 6 and modified 6, except perhaps the BA XR6.

I have crunched some numbers and here are my results :

TL VR-X vs BA XR6

Weight Power @ Wheels

XR-6 = 1700 kg 148 KW

VR-X = 1530 kg 130 KW

Weight/Power Ratios

XR-6= 11.5 kg/kw

VR-X= 11.8 kg/kw

Efficency

XR-6 = 81.3%

VR-X = 79.8 %

manual BA XR6 vs manual VR-X would be close. And please, nobody disagree with me using the evidence of a story about racing BA's on the street, i dont care :hand:

Fair enuf :) I do actually own a 5sp BA XR6 ute, unfortunately for the Magna is has spades and spades more torque. Ate a turbo VL at Edgeworth tail end of last year. He wound down his window and asked us was it a turbo XR6 when he finally arrived at the next set of lights. Weird that he didn't race us from the next 2 sets of lights. :gtfo:

The variable inlet manifold helps once the rpms climb but I feel it's a little breathless up high. A better zorst would certainly help the situation and decent headers. I heard that Scotts Dyno got another 25kw atw with a Haltech H6(?) in a stock BA manual.

they simply have a more refined motor. BA i drove to bundy and back (3000km all up) ended up using 10L/100km for the whole trip once i got back and worked it out. most km were highway but i stopped alot and wasnt very forgiving on the car (hire car  )

beautiful piece of ford

Horses for courses I guess. We have BA company cars at work, a Futura and a few Fairmonts. Nice cars, I could own one, but give me my Magna any day..
