anywhos that took me ages in prep and i dont wanna go through that again, so just wondering if you hav painted your console's etc. how much did it cost you if ya did it yourself and has anyone takin the bits to a panelbeater or spraypainter to get it done by a pro, and if so how much??

that is one impressive computer!
But no Ive never tried painting my cars interior or had it done sorry...

This is another option and one I would like to do one day...
Modicoat (http://www.modicoat.com/)
Its pricey though, but I reakon the woodgrain or brushed aluminium would look sweet!!
Cheers

One of my friends did it.
He just got some very fine sandpaper and gave the pieces he was going to paint a light sand.
Then cleaned them with an aircompressor and damp rag.
A couple coats or primer/undercoat with a light sand/clean between each coat.
Then a few coats of paint again with a light sand/clean between each one.
The a couple coats of a clear finish/sealant with a light sand/clean between each one.
Bingo you have a nice shiny colour-coordinated interior!
Hope this helps!
Cheers
Pete

P.S. If any of that isnt the best way to do it, please let me know! Im only going from memory..

Like anything, if you want a good job it will take some time. When I do mine I'll probably pull it all out for a week or so and then clean and prime it. Then every day give it a light sand and a spray. From what I've read on the forums the trick is to do light coats and plenty of them. Otherwise you get paint runs and it just looks tacky! :D

Saying that, if I was going to put my car in the panel shop I'd get the dash done while it's in :D

everday light sand n spray? crazy that is over prepping tbh the only thing i left for a day was final coat of paint

leaving an hour between coats is fine jus the final layer to cure better so u dont scratch

the reason why u do so many coats is
1. it is more even
2. it comes out smoother
3. less chance of the paint scratching

when i did it i took out all my console clean it with metho, sanded it back a little and washed it down with water to get rid of dust

first layer of plastic primer, let it sit for about an hour then sand with 1200 grit, repeat process 2-3 times

first layer of paint, sand with 1200 then 1600 then sit for an hour or so repeat or 3-4 or however many times u think until u et the paint u want it

optional coats of clear coat after that do the same as u did the plastic primer

let it sit in a dry area (pred warm too) for about 24 hours pop it all back in and bingo u got a painted console

:bowrofl:EFFORT! I didn't do half as much and it tirned out OK:P i can never seem to find a suitable place to put things to dry out. but yeh, please, don't rush it. no matter what u do, the more time u put in the better the results.

question, i lost a little piece of my side skirt a while back (the part at the bottom of the front 1/4 panel). I got one from a wrecker but it was grey, but i wanted it white like the rest of my colour coded skirts.

Ok so went to supercheap and looked in the book to see what my pain code matched up to. Then i did the whole primer snad primer sand primer sand. Got to this point all good, was nice and smooth. I then cleaned it with metho. Then i applied paint, sanded, paint, sand, paint, sand..............AND whatever i did the paint came out of the can all grainy. I thought it was cos i was doing the coats tooo light but any heavier and the paint ran

if it was me Tim-E i would sand back the plastic a little, wash with water let it dry (makes sure there is no dust on it) then done a whole heaps of primer layers (say 4-5) sanded smooth obviously, then a whole heap of white layers (5-7) and sanded smooth, i dont think ur white is clear coated however? if it then hit up some clear coats too

the grain effect ur getting i would say is form the plastic

ive never painted the plastic mould before most of my painting (just like snr88) has been done on computer cases or plastic like form the centre console or metal

Exactly what Pete said. Just pull the dash apart and centre console and do it section by section until you rebuild the interior (in the correct re-fitting order!!) with much satisfaction to be had

My AWD has been decked out in silver and my TF in metallic blue. Looks stock.

Maybe the previous owner put a spell on it....or armourall. Make sure there isn't any dust on it. I sprayed my console really lightly and did up to 10 coats in some places. Remember to use a primer too.

What's wrong with armourall?

I had my old car *cough, hyundai, cough* dash done at my boss's second business, they actually coat plastic objects (phones/photocopiers etc) with a plastic paint to make em look new. Some great head spinning chemicals to make it liquid so you can spray it on... It don't scratch easy and looks sweet as....
Had it done twice, first silver then white.

Deciding what colour to do the Magna now...
