hey guys

ever since i got my car 6mths ago, it is not happy to reach rev limiter while driving...the power and torque seem to trail off with the higher rpm above 5,000...

is this normal for a 3.5L, coz i know for a fact the 3.0L are very rev happy engines, my dad has 1.

anyway, could it be the spark plugs or the leads or anything else???

i recently changed the air filter and my car is stock, it only has a cannon instead of the stock muffler which should help the high rpm, but it doesnt..

any suggestions or comments would b appreciated...

i have a tj series2 auto.

my car is happy to rev way past 5000rpm.mines tmost recponsive from about 3000 up to 5600.then the fuel ecconomy is outrageous after that.

i once did a one off thing and held it into and past redline(dontknow how bad it was for the car, havnt done it since) mine revs almost to 7000rpm i cut it out at 6600rpm and still wanted to keep going.

what is the rev limiter on the magna?

i dont know wats the go with yours?have you tried holding in gear longer.but if it wont go better dont keep trying

On mine it dies at 6800, falls back to about 5500 :P

cheers for that, my 3.5L is 147kW, urs is 155kW, so it could be a more revised engine overall...

i think mine needs sparkies...it is on 85kms and i am going to do the big service in 5kms time, so hopefully it will be better after that...hopefully!!!

apart from that i will have to endure more asthma..

other possibilities are: poor battery, corroded injectors, blocked fuel filter - how much mileage is on the car?

Mine is the 147Kw 3.5 too, and it revs till the cows come home. No probs. There's a good chance it just needs a good service and tune.

drop the cat out for a drive, see how it goes then. may be a exhaust blockage/collapsed cat converter

Yeah my TH 3.5 is never complains to rev out to 6800rpm, but it cant be good for it, the redline is there for a reason.

well my 3.0ltr likes to rev all the way to redline before fuel cuts out....
will be changining it to rev out some more once the comp is in

sorry guys, what i meant was:

it reaches rev limiter while in "L" (locked in first), but it takes a long time to go upwards from 6000 to rev limiter, the engine just seems to lose acceleration after redline (but before rev limiter)...it could be normal, i jus don have anything to compare it to...

since the 3.5L has big pistons and it shouldnt be forced to work above 6000 anyway so i guess i am gonna have to ride in another 147kW magna somewhere somehow, jus to see if it does the same thing as mine.

this morning i took off the factory snorkel (that connect the air filter box to the radiator, wit the 3 plastic screws), and now the engine is sucking air from the engine bay...

I dunno what this does performance wise, but the engine sounds sooo much meaner and the exhaust has gone louder, and you can actually hear the V6 roar coming from the engine rather than the exhaust...

for those of you with a stock air intake like me, give it a try, even if u don have exhaust, it sounds wicked

Well I have an 01 TJ 3.5, whatever Kw's that has.

Mine revs fairly freely with no cat and a 2.5inch cat back system.

:)

LOL
That would Be Frickin loud as,MY!!!!
I've also ripped my snorkel off my TH,makes a nice grunty sound, but i had
to slam it back on cause it was sucking up nothing but hot air:redface:
BTW,it could be ur Fuel Filter,Plugs,Injectors.
Who knows prolly just needs a Full service to sort out the lack of high revs:doubt:
Good Luck mate:cool:
