I did all the painting myself. First time I've ever sprayed anything in my life lol I just cleaned everything with prepsol, 5 or more coats of primer, then about the same number of coats of paint. No sanding, muuhuhauwhuawhaa.

its called metallic grey silver. Forgot what paint it was tho. There is a cheap and expensive paint at supercheap, get the big, expensive one. Seeing as tho mine was 'metallic' you need to make sure it is evenly covered everywhere, otherwise some parts come up silver, and some parts come up grey.

2 days, most of the time is spent watching the paint dry, so remember to keep a pot plant near by and watch that grow while u watch the paint dry. DOUBLE PRODUCTIVITY! lol

yeh might just sit in front of the tv instead, ill prob wait till i get a head unit now and install that at the same time to save me taking out the console twice so could be a wile off as money is tight, anyone willing to donate to the mod my car charity, you can see where your money goes week by week as my car gets more and more mods... well it was worth a try

I'll give you some of my post count.

1L of prepsol, can of plastic primer and spray paint comes to around 20 bucks. One can does dash, air con vents, gear surround, the two circles on the dash, four door handles and speedo surround (not bezelelels)

here was my manga. b4 i gave it to my lil sis. :D

yeah im gettin interior neons soon aswell so i'll wait till they're installed first before i post

oh now i remember you, you had a green magna with all the cathodes, and ages ago you had a slit where the cd tray was with a mitsubishi see through that glowed also.

bak in the days i was a hardcore computer modder and i became a computer mod parts reseller and i got sh!t heaps cheaps so i bought 10 blue cold cathodes @ lke 14-15 bucks a pair with dual inverter etc.

the rear ones are mounted to the bottom of the rear seat cabletyed in to the cloth the wires are running back to a switch that i had under the centerconsole hatch....
the frount ones are cable tyed on to the end of the plastic covers in the foot wells all the wireing fount and back go to the switch and then get their power from the back of the sig lighter. :) works a treat and looks awsome at night.
if you want i could try and get pics..
since then i only have 1 cathode left.. rear ones broke when i liffted the seat up..
frount one broke due to passanger :S and the frount one is the only one that still works..
i also put take on one side of the tube so the light dident go back up in to the back of the steering wheel.

20 is a great price so is 16 :)
i connected them to the wire at the back..
i had these clamps that clamp on through the plastick onto the wire :)
so i solderd the cathode wire to the clamps then clamped them on simple as pie!

hey magna art is that the exact same colour as your car or you just got a colour that was close to it. and did ya do it yourself it looks pretty good

i attempted the same feat as VERADA, tho mine has ended up nice and bubbled...and its a ***** to remove now with the cd player im told....damn

yes..did them all... for 3rd gens their very easy... I did em for a civic and a camry and it became tidious work..


as for the painted console, jsut went to kmart and bought some silver modelling paint and some clear primer/gloss and took my own sweet time...

If any1 is asking whether the gloss is going to reflect from the sun, it doesnt.

I tried to get the hazard switch off, couldn't do it, so i just used masking tape and covered it up. make sure u cover up the sides and it reaches deep into the crevaces.

Brushed aluminium :shock: I guess u could attack it with some sandpaper, or put a paintbrush thru it, dunno. Better off trying to find a premade brushed aluminium 'look' console.

no idea exactly what colour it is. did my door trims first, wanted a navy blue colour and this is want i ended up with. then when i got my console ect. painted, i took them in and asked for the same colour as my doors.

got the material from Spotlight, and got a crash repairer to do my console. if you want to do your door trims just go into a material shop and choose a colour u like. then u can get every thing else painted in that colour. if you leave your door trims until last you may have trouble getting a matching colour.

Errr....leave the shoe polish for boots (or face in Sam Newman's case :D )

I used this stuff. Did the trims and glovebox. But.....it wears on the high traffic areas, like armrests. :rant: Did 3-4 coats but still wears away. And FFS it is toxic!! I think it's affected my ability to reason, and I'm blaming it for the mod bug . lol

Dash will be done during H/U install - Clarion DXZ946MP :dancin:

Got carpet from Protectomat in WA. $280-ish delivered. The only place I could find that did a replacement 3rd Gen. carpet.

Great to see alot of wicked interiors. Tim-E, Stonesour, Hendo, Eek (Go the fluff!!), Jpeg in red, and everyone else with individual ideas.

Dee, was gonna get seat covers from that place in a two tone to match the trims, but that lady was very difficult to communicate with. Sent her a sample of the material but couldn't figure out whether her blue was the same or what!!

Eek, the speaker install isn't exactly stealth 'coz I've butchered the trims, but I could post up a copy of the template for the speaker baffle if you want?

thanks a lot. i'll look into - seems like its a special paint for car dash's , you'd think it wouldnt wear as fast...

trimmings look easy to do, but i might just leave it for some pro's, cause doing the dash removal will proove to be yuckie i think...

is it butchered up so bad that the stock grills will never be able to go back in? Coz i have 6.5" splits and I think the hole is bigger than the speaker anyway. Post 'em up sunshine :D

im pretty sure (in vic at least) it's illegal to have chrome infront of the driver?

in the KJ verada series the series 2 Xi, series 1, MY02 and series 2 awd and GTV's came with the chrome shifter surround, series 2 also had the woodgrain shifter, series 1 and MY02 models (Ei and Xi) had the black plastic surround with the black leather wrapped shifter.. well im pretty sure thats right :confused:

so does my mums 206, i havn't drivin in it, but it's annoying as hell in the passenger seat.
but that's next to the driver, not infront.
Where i got this info from was from my old mans roadster, apparently when it went for roadworthy, he had to take the little windscreens off, cause they have chrome surrounds on it. and it wouldnt have passed.
i got no legal proof, but, it's just what i've heard :P it migth be worth checking it out though, what the legal requirements are.

I painted the silver console part myself just to see what it looks like... Not sure if I should keep going and paint the whole console. Trim I did myself too.

I hope to add a leather steering wheel cover soon as well.

yeah so did the TJ sports and VR-X's i think... i was just referrin to the KJ Verada range as someone sed veradas had them, but not all did.. im sure theres other ones that had them aswell..

How come u have window winders and leather seats? I thought they would have fitted power windows if u got leather seats. :confused: Nehows, you should really finish off what u started. Looks very nice. I didnt spray the insides of my cup holders coz i thought that after a while the paint would come off and it would look gay. Oh well, youlll find out later.

Verada Interior Lights, Verada Dash Clock, Verada Door Map pockets, Leather Seats & Door Trim Inserts. (Verada Rear Wagon roof Speakers - not in yet)

My latest interior work, centre console only at this stage with new H/U and ipod cradle. Gearstick boot has been replaced with velveteen type thanks to the missus sewing skills :D

I was thinking about doing that same mod as i am changing my shifter this weekend as my button broke on tuesday, shot it into the back seat damn that spring has some compression...

you can get those auto knobs that the whole knob pushes down rather than having a button.... that'd look ok

Anyone got any suggestions on how to mask off the inside of the cup holder and coin trays on the centre console??

when your masking the only bit that needs to be neat is the line between painted and not painted......so with some masking tape follow the line that you don't want painted then stuff whatever(paper) into the cup holder to cover the rest

dont underestimate playdoh!!! the stuff can mould into anything, and stop the paint seeping in.... but yer, thats what i use when you have a spray paint applicator gun... if your painting with a paintbrush, perhaps tape will do...

this might seem like a really stupid question......but is the detail for the open/close airvents still there or is it just glare?

because I got talking to this guy that comes into work alot about getn mine sprayd, and he said he's a spraypainter by trade and would be more then happy to do it for free for me, only catch is i need to take it off myself (how good is that), but i still wouldn't mind keepin the little details, any suggestions on how i could keep em or get them redone l8r on?

Now it's time for me to share my newly modded interior (just finished putting it back together). I can't believe how long it took - but maybe it's just me. Ran into a few setbacks, broke alot of clips (#$@*! I hate clips!!!) and lost a few screws (but still had screws left over :shock: ), but I couldn't be much happier with the results.

Pretty much all I've done is paint some plastic bits silver, and recovered the fabric inserts in the doors. I intend in the not to distant future to replace the lower door fabric with a black carpet and at the same time replace the factory carpet with a black carpet (I know someone on here has done it, they found a mob that makes replacement magna carpet).

I just done sprayed my interior and i got a TJ, its bloody easy to get them out. I just used my car keys, (couldn't be assed going into the shead to get a skrew driver lol ) Just make shore you either do it from the front or the back, and not in the middle. And bobs your uncle, its out

I belive there is a product which some ppl on here have used to dye their carpet. Haven't really looked into it too much myself, but thats not to say I won't consider it as an option when the time comes to think seriously about it (I'm like you - I'm gonna get the seats done first).

You could always try using the search - cause I'm positive I've seen ppl post about it on here.

ddoes anybody know if it has better effect to use exterior paint on the console other than cheap household spray paint?......and whats the best primer to use....brands would be better thanks alot
