The AWD has these stupid size 215/60/16's as standard.
I'm looking at changing the 17" or 18" rims, the problem is matching the rolling diameter of the proposed new tyre wheel combination.
I have noted that when the battery is reconnected that the trip computer prompts for a choice between 3.5 and AWD magna.
Is this to cater for the different wheel rolling diameter differences between the models??
Anyone really know why the this is so??

No, the AWD and FWD have the same rolling diameter setups from the factory. Its to tell the ECU that its a different car but for what reasons i dont know. Its nothing to do with wheel sizes though

It's to turn it from AWD to FWD :bowrofl:
Sorry, that's not helpful :D

Yep...it's used for adjusting the calculations for the trip-computer.

How so?

the whole problem of putting bigger wheels on an AWD car has nothing to do with rolling diameter. Its all to do with wheel load ratings. Apparently their is only one type of tyre that you can use on an AWD magna if you put 18" wheels on, and they are some kind of falkens because they are the only tyres available in australia with the right load rating for 18" wheels on an AWD magna
these are the tyres that sprintex use on their demo car, which runs 18's

ah well, i guess you could just take the risk and not worry about getting the load rating correct. alot of ppl do this with FWD when putting on 18s or 19s anyway
How so?
Is'nt the awd fuel tank smaller, as that would necesitate different trip computer settings

Close Jake...The trip computer asks for a difference between awd and 3.5 due to the fuel tank being a split type to go over the driveshaft, it is a different capacity and has 2 fuel senders which send data back to trip ecu which then works out how much fuel is left between the 2 halves of the tank.

Cool, i knew it was something like that , as our A6 Quattro's work similar but with 3 senders

Okay, this post is helpful.
If you want to go from 16's to 17's it's quite likely you can't do it due to the rolling diameter. Going to 18's should be an issue. Load rating is always an issue regardless of tyre size. Going to a lower profile was always reduce or severly limit the choices available.
