Hey guys!

My TS v6 is being a big baby! I've noticed the idle gets a stutter in it for a while, and have thought of doing plug leads, and dizzy cap, but haven't yet. Anyway... I installed an amp yesterday, and had to disconnect the battery to do so. Today I took it for a drive... started fine... had a fairly big lag when putting foot down from idle... been mentioned heaps of times here, and then drove fine... but I was in the carpark at my destination, and it stalled the engine... so I switched off all ancilliary stuff, fans, stereo, lights... and started it, started fine... turned everything back on... all fine. No fuses blown. Not my install job evidently!!!

Now, I THINK it's the idle control motor. Am I correct would you say? Or is it possible I've just made the ECU angry with me? Should I reset it? I really want to get a major service... new fuel filter, air filter, plugs, leads, dizzy, cat converter, throttle body cleaned, and injectors cleaned. But I'm saving up for that!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, what do you think the prob is? ECU need resetting? I personally don't think that. Or just idle motor? Dad thinks maybe I bumped throttle cable thingo, but I don't see how I could have... it still drives normal. Brother thinks the throttle body is clogged, and says it smells like it's running rich. My fuel efficiency is a bit up the spout lately too.... so yeah.

Tanx in advance for some help fellas!!!

Peace out y'all!

OoooOo, well, that ain't too cool.

I think a lot of people on here say that have heaps of issues with 2nd gen ISC motors :redface:

Could be a cominamation of other factors too.

Ah well, me have a 3rd gen, and my car stalls after I rip out the battery because my ECU thinks I'm gay. I let it sit on my driveway for 20 mins or so, then go for a bit of a drive.

I wanna see amp, doof doof and angry neighbours :badgrin:

Not long till someone will have a meeting at teh crappy park about noisey cars and or music lol

maybe get the ISCM looked at?

ECU resetting doesnt actually fix anything, it's a bit of a myth.

Before jumping to the ISC, check your leads, plugs and check inside the dizzy, make sure there's no corrosion on the button. If you replace all them and they're fine then look at your ISC.

Better to start cheap and easy then work up to the expensive things. ;)

Check all your vac hoses are ok and if you installed one of those thick amp cables from the battery to the boot, make sure during the install you didnt accidently pull something out.

Also, check to see if your O2 censor is connected. I always pull the wire out by an accident lol

yeah, my car was doing EXACTLY the same, even stalled on me once, bloody embarrassing it was when you stall an auto infront of people lol

My vac hoses were old and cracked, not sealing properly at all, replaced them and seemed to fix the problem.

Looks like this topic was dormant for a while, but this seems like a good a place as any to post this because I can't seem to find the link where I copied it from originally. I hope the info is correct, 'cause I haven't needed to use this proceedure myself...

The following procedures are to be used if driveability problems are encountered after power loss or battery removal. These procedures may provide an aid in eliminating these problems and reduce the possibility of complaints after any service or work requiring the battery be removed.

Vehicles equipped with engine or transmission computers may require a relearn procedure. Vehicle computers memorize and store your vehicle operation patterns for optimum driveability and performance, removing the power results in the computers losing this saved data. The computer will then use default data until new data from each key start is stored, this can take up to 40 key starts.

Customers will often complain that their cars suffer from 1 or all of the following;
Harsh/Poor shift quality, Rough or unstable idle, Hesitation or stumble, Rich or lean running and poor fuel economy.

To reduce the possibility of the above Mitsi Mtrs recommend doing the following;

Set park brake and start veh in P or N, warm up veh til cooling fan cycles.
Select D and allow veh to idle for 1 minute.
Drive normally using 20%-50% throttle until vehicle hits top gear.
Cruise at light to med throttle for 5 minutes.
Decelerate to a stop allowing veh to downshift and brake normally.
Repeat if required.
