Hey,
My little sister owns a TN magna, That needs a birthday, (Engine Replacement), I mean it still runs at the moment but it does blow smoke. I was just wondering if anyone know where too get another engine from for a good price. We live in adelaide, We also then need someone to fit the engine, so if anyone knows of someone that can do both for a good price, or just fit please let me know, as i think she will be doing this very soon.
Cheers

If it's only smoking, try getting the Valve Stem seals done. If it's generally tired, a reco's probably a good idea.
well, i'm from adelaide - and i got my engine reconditioned
dont get a HM Gem rebuild - i had many problems with them (like 3 engines later -and it's just been a year and it's leaking oil):disgusted

Oh Ok.
We are thinking of getting an engine from city dismantles. they seem to do a good deal

Veradagirl,
When exactly is is blowing smoke?
If it is only after it has been idle or on startup then more than likely it is valve stem seals. These are a fairly straight-forward job and would not be too expensive.
If it is pretty much constant, then it is probably worn rings. In this case the engine needs a reco and you need to weigh up reco cost v. how long you want the car (if you are only planning on keeping it short term then go s/h engine).
As for the HM Gen engines, I will agree. I have 2 mates woith 2 different cars with them in them and had nothing but hassles (one had a cracked block when we put it in LOL).

I have been told by the raa, and a mechanic that we took it to that it needed a new engine. there is a lot of wear and tear. I don't think it blows a lot of smoke, and it runs quite well. it's quite a little zippy car, got a lot of guts in it.

Best way to tell whether its smoking or not is to drive behind it. Blue (oil burning) smoke is strongest when accelerating away.

according to the gf, my car was blowing smoke whenever i accelerated away or when going up steep hills on our holiday trip last week :(
According to my father, my motor was blowing a bit of smoke when I stripped my bearings, and cracked a piston...
