View Full Version : 15in wheels ----> 17in wheels.
hello guys,
i'd like to hear some comments from people who have 'upgraded' their wheels to 16in or 17in from 15in.
how was the ride quality/road noise/general handling affected and by how much.
i'd like 17s but if it will make the car noisey and bumpy then i'd just get 16s or stick with the 15s maybe (although tyres can be a bit more expensive in a 16in compared with 17in).
ideally i'd like those vr-x rims asylum is selling in SA.
any input guys?

i have 17s dumped 2.5inches and they look good, theyre p6000 tyres and mags from ralliart so a bit of scrub at full lock these tyres are thick but looks fat...im going bigger.
dont bother going 16 just go 17, or 18s +low pro and pay extra 180 or so bucks to have your gaurds rolled, then theyll look fat as and be very driveable in terms of scrapage, wider tyres are better for traction too but also mags can be heavy and the smaller the tyre the smaller the compression it can take= bumpier ride.

I have P6000's too - Great tyres but I've found they wear quick.
How have yours been ? (Wearing okay? How many KMs?)
Back to the thread...
I have 15" mags on my car - wish that I went for 17 or 18s.
Will be getting new rims on the new Tarago (family car) and they will be 17 or 18's for sure.

I bought 17s for my 3rd gen.. they looked ok but i found they didnt fill the guards enough.. only had em for about 8months and then decided to upgrade to 19s.. Would have obviously been cheaper for me to get the 19s to start with..
Point being, if your looking to fill the guards and youve got the cash go 19s because you may not be happy with 17s... Ride quality is fine, only a tad harder
also i find the power steering a little too light for my liking. does fatter tyres on 17s provide a bit more resistance?

Yea theres slightly tighter steering, but nothing majour. its just that extra grip doing its job.

How much does it cost roughly for lowering a tr/ts... is it just the springs? or?
